Woman Sentenced To 15 Days For Killing 8-Year-Old Girl, Won't Even Apologize

Gloria Bartek crashed her car into eight-year-old Khloe Nida as she was carrying milk into her home.

Berea, OH – A 77-year-old woman who slammed her vehicle into an eight-year-old girl expressed no remorse and took no responsibility for killing the child during her sentencing hearing on Monday.

“I understand what the family’s going through,” was all Gloria Bartek told the court, according to WGHP.

Without even admitting guilt, Bartek pleaded no contest to a single misdemeanor count of negligent vehicular homicide in the death of eight-year-old Khloe Nida.

She was sentenced to just 15 days in jail.

Nida was carrying milk into her home in September of 2018, when Bartek inexplicably drove across a nearby church parking lot, barreled across a bustling roadway, and slammed into her.

Bartek never hit her brakes, and never even sounded her car’s horn, the little girl’s parents told the court.

Vehicle experts hired by the Book Park Police Department were unable to find any mechanical problems with the car Bartek was driving at the time of the deadly crash, WGHP reported.

"We certainly have a lot of hard questions as to what happened and why,” attorney Craig Bashein told the news outlet. "From the beginning, it seems like this driver has not taken responsibility for what occurred.”

“Immediately after the accident she claimed a defect or a problem in her motor vehicle, that would cause her car to travel what appears to be over 200 yards at a high rate of speed,” he added.

Khloe’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Bartek, and Bashein said he hopes her testimony will help provide answers about how the crash occurred.

"The defendant will have to provide under-oath testimony in our case, and there will be in-depth questioning of what occurred and why,” he said.

Bartek was ordered to serve a portion of her 15-day jail sentence annually on or near the anniversary date of the crash, WGHP reported.

The judge also placed her on probation, suspended her driver’s license for five years, and fined her $500.

She faced a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Nope, show no remorse, no responsibility, and it's always somebody or something else's fault for what happened. Big deal, the Judge suspended her drivers license for 5 years. Anybody wanna bet how long it will be before she is caught driving with a suspended license ? With the attitude she has, what makes you think she will provide answers about the crash, or at least the correct answers.

15 days & $500, huh? Yeah...that's a brutal sentence. Glad they're serious about punishing child killers in Berea. <sarc>

I'm so sad for the girls parents. The nightmare they go through on a daily basis will far exceed 15 days in jail..... Bartek should never, ever be allowed to drive again.

The skank was probably drunk and/or on (prescription) drugs. No mention whether that was considered.
