Woman Calls 911 To Report Her Car Stolen As She's Actively Fleeing From Police

An Iowa woman called 911 to report her car stolen while she was being chased by police inside that vehicle.

Clinton, IA – A 20-year-old woman was arrested after she called 911 to reporter her car stolen while she was in that vehicle fleeing from police officers last Tuesday morning.

The incident began at about 10:38 a.m. on Aug. 13 when a Clinton County deputy sheriff clocked Rachel Thornburg’s vehicle speeding down Highway 30 near Mill Creek Parkway, WQAD reported.

The deputy tried to stop the vehicle but the driver fled.

A moment later, Thornburg called 911 and claimed that she had left her keys in her car and the vehicle had been stolen, WQAD reported.

“When she took off running, and we got the call, we thought: ‘Oh sure,’” Clinton County Sheriff Rick Lincoln told the New York Daily News.

Thornburg told 911 that her car had been stolen in Low Moor as she was being pursued by law enforcement.

She led police on a 51-minute chase as she blew through stop signs and tore in and out of parking lots, WQAD reported.

The pursuit continued across the Wapsipinicon River into Scott County, according to the Clinton Herald.

Le Claire police officers tried to stop the chase by putting down Stop Sticks to deflate Thornburg’s tires but they were unsuccessful, according to the New York Daily News.

The chase ended when Iowa State Highway Patrol trooper deployed deflation devices and flattened the tires of her 1998 gray Buick Century, according to WQAD.

Thornburg was arrested and charged with eluding, speeding, and reckless driving, the New York Daily News reported.

She was also charged with driving on a suspended license.

Thornburg was booked into the Clinton County Jail where she remained in custody in lieu of a $2,000 bond, according to the New York Daily News.

She reminds me of an idiot who worked for a friend of mine. The guy stole a bunch of lottery tickets, from a small business and was arrested when he tried to cash the winners in!
