Woman Attempts To Firebomb Occupied Immigration Office In Middle Of Day
Oakland Park, FL – A woman attempted to firebomb a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office by tossing a lit Molotov cocktail into the office lobby on Friday afternoon.
A report detailing the botched attack has been forwarded to President Donald Trump’s administration, the Associated Press reported.
Cellicia Hunt, 35, walked into the occupied immigration office and hurled a gasoline-filled bottle that held a lit fuse, but the lit fuse disconnected from the bottle, so the flammable substance never ignited, according to the report.
Hunt was apprehended by security officers, and was subsequently arrested by Federal Protective Service officers on a charge of maliciously attempting to damage or destroy a government building by fire, the Associated Press reported.
Although no one was injured during the incident, the office was forced to close temporarily.
“Today’s attempted attack on one of our USCIS facilities using a Molotov cocktail is another example of the use of violence in place of debate by those who oppose the proper application of our immigration laws,” Citizenship and Immigration Services Acting Director Ken Cuccinelli tweeted on Friday.
“This is the 2d attack on a DHS facility in 2 months using a Molotov cocktail,” Cuccinelli's tweet continued. “Violence has no place in our society. Thankfully, no one was hurt today.”
The director also expressed his appreciation for the officers who took Hunt into custody.
“We’re grateful to our security guards & the law enforcement officers of FPS who apprehended and arrested the assailant,” he said.
According to court documents, the incident was also captured by surveillance cameras, the Associated Press reported.
Hunt is scheduled to appear in federal court in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday.
