Weymouth Police Officer Shot, In 'Very Critical' Condition

A Weymouth police officer was shot Sunday morning.

Weymouth, MA - A Weymouth police officer is in "very critical" condition after being shot Sunday morning.

Cassy Arsenault with NBC Boston reports that witnesses told her that the suspect was driving erratically before crashing into another car at around 7 a.m.

The driver then fled on foot and got into a confrontation with the officer at 47 Burton Terrace, and the officer was shot.

WCVB reports that the officer was transported to the hospital in very critical condition. The suspect has been taken into custody.

Neither the officer or suspect have been identified at this time, and the department has not released any more information.

Sure, "stricter federal laws" are always the answer. Those state laws against shooting someone just don't seem to be working. Here's an idea that will probably get your (B.A.D''s) undies bunched up: a federal law that murdering a police officer is an automatic death penalty case, regardless of what state law says. Hey, it might not act as a deterrent, but it could cure recidivism.
