Westwego Officer Michael Louvier Ambushed, Shot In Back Of Head When He Stopped To Help

Marrero, Louisiana – Westwego Police Officer Michael Louvier was shot in the back of the head when he stopped to help at a collision scene Friday morning. The suspects are still on the run.

UPDATE: Officer Louvier has succumbed to his injuries.

Details are still coming in on the incident which left one woman murdered and a Westwego Officer Michael Louvier shot in the back of the head.

NOLA and other sources report that Officer Michael Louvier has just gotten off of work and was driving home in an unmarked patrol car when he came across a collision scene. The officer stopped to help, and a suspect(s), believed to be occupants of a white U-haul involved in the collision, ambushed the officer. The officer was shot in the back of the head and a woman, believed to be involved in the collision, was also shot.

Officer Michael Louvier was transported to West Jeff General Hospital where there has been no word on his condition. The female who was shot died on the scene.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office released the following statement:
Friday morning we were informed that one of our Westwego Police Department officers and a female victim were shot in a senseless act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer, the brave men and women of the Westwego Police Department and the woman's family. We stand behind the leadership of Chief Dwayne Munch,Sr. and Mayor John Shaddinger and we offer any available resource at this time. We are confident Parish law enforcement officers will find those responsible and we will continue to monitor this unfortunate event.
The suspects are still at large and are believed to be driving a white U-Haul truck with front end damage. There is a massive manhunt underway at this time for those suspects.
