Bridgeport, TX - A Bridgeport Police Officer narrowly escaped death while on a traffic stop as he dodged a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way. Dash camera video captured the incident (video below.)
Bridgeport Corporal Taylor made a traffic stop on a vehicle that made a left turn on a red light. While he was speaking with the driver, an oncoming wrong-way vehicle almost ran him over. The Corporal let his stopped driver go and took off after the drunk driver.
Bridgeport Police Chief Steve Standford released the following information on the incident:
Friday evening, Cpl Taylor stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation. While on the stop, Cpl Taylor noticed a second vehicle driving toward him. Fortunately, Cpl Taylor was able to quickly move out of the path of a vehicle, to the rear of the initial vehicle. As the suspect vehicle passed by, you see it narrowly missed striking the citizen's vehicle and the patrol unit.
Cpl Taylor, quickly cleared the initial stop and located the suspect vehicle on US Hwy 380. The driver, who was under the influence of alcohol, was arrested and spent the rest of his evening in the Wise County Jail on multiple charges.
Once again, Cpl Taylor handled himself in a calm professional demeanor during this event. I'm pretty confident his commitment to physical fitness also played a role in the outcome of this incident. Great work - Corporal!
Thankfully, the officer wasn't hurt and he was able to stop the drunk driver before he harmed anybody.
