WANTED: Officer Toney's Suspected Killer Identified - Still On The Run

Gwinnett County Police Department says that Tafahree Maynard is the gunman who murdered Officer Antwan Toney

Snellville, GA - Authorities have identified the suspected gunman in the murder of Gwinnett County Police Officer Antwan Toney as Tafahree Maynard, 18, of Snellville.

Maynard remains on the run and a massive manhunt is in progress to find him.

He is described as a black male (pictured), 6’1”, 200 pounds. No associated vehicle information was given.

Maynard is currently wanted for aggravated assault and felony murder and should be treated as armed and dangerous.

Anybody who sees Maynard is asked to call 770-513-5710.

Please help share his face on social media so that this killer has nowhere to hide. Even if you aren't in the area, sharing can help get his face out there.

The shooting happened at around 3 p.m. Saturday after officers responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle near Shiloh Middle School where the occupants were reported to possibly be smoking marijuana.

Gwinnett County Sergeant Jake Smith told reporters that two officers approached the vehicle without their guns drawn.

Authorities now say that Tafahree Maynard opened fire on police from inside of the vehicle.

Officer Antwan Toney was struck by the gunfire. The other officer dragged Officer Toney away as the suspect vehicle took off.

Officers returned fire, but the suspects were not hit.

The suspect vehicle crashed about 1 mile away and the occupants, Maynard and Isiah Pretlow, fled from the area on foot.

Officer Toney was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries, according to Sergeant Smith.

U.S. Marshals later located Pretlow and he pointed a gun at them. Officers fired at Pretlow and took him into custody. It's not clear at this time if he was struck by the gunfire.

Maynard remains at large.

Officer Toney was killed just 6 days before his 3-year anniversary with the department. He was unmarried and his family lives out of state.

Please spread the word before Maynard hurts anybody else.

I wonder whether Officer Toney was in uniform when he approached the vehicle. Has anyone seen an answer to that?
