VIRAL VIDEO: Police Stand Back As Man Stomps On Patrol Cars

A bizarre scene unfolded in Newark when a disturbed man jumped on top of three police patrol cars.

Newark, NJ – An angry, emotionally-distressed man performed a very public show of defiance against the Newark Police Department on Saturday when he jumped on top of three different police cruisers (video below).

The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 in the 300-block of Clinton Place near Lyons Avenue, when a shirtless man wearing black pants and red sneakers jumped on top of an occupied police car.

In a bizarre scene captured on video by a witness, the man stomped around on the roof of the police car before he jumped onto the hood and stomped around some more.

Even stranger than the scene unfolding on the roof was the fact that the police officer remained inside his patrol unit as the man jumped on it, the video showed.

Then the man jumped off the car and went to the driver’s window of the police car, and appeared to engage with the officer for almost a minute before he returned to the front of the car and jumped up on the hood again.

In the video, the man jumped up and down as hard as he could on the cruiser’s hood, making visible dents in the metal.

Bystanders can be heard in the video speculating about why the man is “going crazy” and whether he might be on drugs.

About 90 seconds after the video began, witnesses started speculating about where the officer’s backup was, as the officer continued to sit in the police car that was under assault.

Several times the man squatted down and appeared to engage the officer through the windshield in a menacing manner, the video showed, before he leapt onto the police car’s roof yet again.

Two minutes after the video began, two additional police units arrived to back up the one the man was standing on. They rolled up behind the first car and stopped.

An officer got out of the first backup unit and approached the rear of the police vehicle the man was standing on and talked to him, the video showed.

Then all of a sudden, the man ran down off the back of the police car, past the officer, and up onto the hood and roof of the backup patrol car, the video showed.

People nearby cheered at the man’s antics, and so he took off yet again, down the back of that police car, past another Newark police officer, and up onto the hood and roof of the second backup unit, the video showed.

The man stood screaming unintelligibly on the hood of the third cruiser as bystanders began to heckle him and calling for him to steal a patrol car.

Then the video showed he jumped down off the patrol car and approached the officer, getting close enough to assault him if he had tried.

Despite the hoots and hollers of witnesses that seemed to escalate the man’s antics, police remained calm, the video showed.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose told Blue Lives Matter in an email that officers arrested the suspect after the incident.

The man was charged with three counts of criminal mischief and remanded to the Essex County Correctional Center, Director Ambrose said.

He said the Newark PD’s Internal Affairs Unit would be investigating how the officers handled the unusual situation.

Watch the man rampage across the top of three police cars in the video below:

I couldn't watch the video. That's not the way I would have handled it but in todays world officers are crucified no matter the response. Of course, the players are all the same. Out of work low life's who have no concept of what it cost to repair the cars at tax payer (not these people of course) expense.

It is hard to imagine what kind of positive message (if any) is being sent to all of the young people in the area while this oxygen thief was demonstrating his total lack of respect for any semblance of civic order!

I would have floored when he was on the roof

We had take-home cruisers and I treated mine as if it were my own vehicle. If he'd done that to my cruiser I would have opened up an Extra Large Economy Size can of Whupass and poured it all over him.

COMPLETE RIDICULOUS IMSANITY! What message are these low life POS sending to our youth by "cheering" this idiot on? Good job Officers, not many would be so calm! I know I wouldn't! This is NUTS! No matter how the Officer's handled this, someone would try to say they weren't acting right. Our LEO's can't even do their JOB these days, for fear of all the violence! My WORD....back in my day, this idiot would have been taken to the ground in a NY second! God Bless our LEO's😔🚔👮🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 #leostrong #ibacktheblue #myson #loyalty #dedication #nervesofsteel

First reaction would have been to tear his ass up..but seeing the crowd of "law-abiding" potential BLM activists egging this POS on, the officers probably did about all they could safely do without starting a riot. Damn shame

I did 27 years, and I have no problem with these Officers. This reaction is what is now demanded. No longer do you risk your life or career on these types of incidents. You cannot react in the way you should to uphold the law or your oath. Please don't lecture me on pride, oath, etc. See Chicago.

Anyone else have a problem with how the crowd reacted? The public is now actively engaging with this sick pos's and that is scary as hell. He's a lucky fellow that all he got was "arrested".

So it would be okay for officers to stand by and watch criminals act this way? How about toward innocent citizens? And not the clowns and dregs of society standing there cheering on the clown on the cars. Amazing how one swore an oath and then does nothing. I will hope that they were given verbal and written orders to not arrest those who are committing crimes, will possibly save them from lawsuits and firing in the future.

I am sure none of those people would be cheering and encouraging this POS if it was their car he was jumping on. The liberal policies of the people in charge have caused this and the spineless command in LE has allowed this to become the new normal.

100% result of liberal bureaucrat scumbags running our cities into the ground by kissing the ass of the their uneducated, entitled, hapless minions. A white man would've gotten shot or at least a good ass whoopin'...

I have complete sympathy for those black police officers and law abiding black citizens .....but sorry , no more sympathy at all to the black community as you are otherwise literally out of control in a civil society. Disgusting ,vile and these are obviously not men. They are scum and are wasting air and water.

Damned if they do damn if they don't..... Either way would have made headlines and led to protest. Another waste of life and debt to society.

All those "filming" bystanders encouraging him and laughing would have quickly changed their tunes if he had started jumping on their cars!
