VIDEO: UNC Student Shocked She Was Arrested For Stealing Pro-Life Sign

Police arrested a UNC Chapel Hill student who stole a sign from a pro-life group's campus display.

Chapel Hill, NC – A university student is facing charges after she stole a pro-life sign from a group on campus (video below).

The pro-life organization Created Equal had an information table set up under an umbrella in a plaza area at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill when the incident occurred.

The organization captured on video the moment a female student snatched a sign from their table and stomped away with it.

The video began with the young woman approaching the table to ask about a sign.

“What does it say on this side?” the girl asked.

“This side is a warning,” the pro-life student replied.

That’s when the girl reached in and grabbed the big orange sign board and fled with it, the video showed.

“Ma’am, don’t steal the sign,” Austin Beigel, a student with the Created Equal group, called after her.

“You can’t steal the sign. You’re on camera stealing the sign,” Beigel reminded her in a voice that said this wasn’t his first rodeo.

He followed the woman, who the video showed trudged through the rain carrying the big sign.

The he called out to a university police officer who was stationed nearby.

“Officer, she’s stealing the sign,” Beigel yelled in the video.

“Ma’am, you’re about to walk right into a police officer,” he warned the student. “You’re committing theft right now.”

Another student rushes over to the girl who in the video looked as if she was about to throw the sign over a railing.

Just then, the police officer approached the group.

“Did you steal their sign?” the officer asked the girl.

“I just moved it,” she replied.

“You just did what?” the officer asked.

“I just moved it,” she said again.

“You just moved it,” the officer repeated. “Well, you took it.”

He asked Beigel and his friend what had happened and they explained they had video of the girl taking the sign from them.

“She just ripped it out of my hands,” Beigel told the officer.

The police officer asked the girl why she had taken the sign.

“Because this restricts women’s rights,” she said, tapping on the sign. “He’s promoting lies on a college campus.”

The officer returned the sign to its rightful owners.

“I can’t believe y’all protect them,” the outraged student said to the police officer as she started to leave.

“Nope,” the officer said in the video. “You’re not going anywhere. Right now, you’re being detained.”

“Detained for what?” the student asked, sounding shocked.

“Uh, larceny,” the officer told her. “You stole his sign.”

“He has it back,” the girl insisted in a snarky tone, the video showed.

“Okay, yeah, because I got it from you,” the officer said.

“I moved it 50 yards,” the girl complained.

“I don’t care if you moved it one foot, you don’t have a right to take someone’s property. Okay? Period. I don’t care what the circumstance is. You don’t have a right to take anyone’s property. He was holding it, therefore, it was his. And you took it,” the officer explained.

“I know you may not agree with what’s being said, but you don’t have a right to take someone’s property,” he said.

“Look sir, I’m not trying to get arrested,” the woman said a moment later. “I just don’t agree with what’s being…”

“Do you have ID on you?” the officer interrupted her.

“No,” the girl lied. “Am I being arrested right now?”

The video showed the girl really did not appear to think there were going to be any consequences for her actions.

He explained that she was being detained.

“Okay, well I won’t mess with the sign again,” the girl offered.

“Okay, that’s fine,” the officer replied.

“Do you have any ID on you?” he asked for a second time, knowing full well that every student has to have their ID in order to enter and exit and purchase meals on campus.

“Yeah,” she admitted.

She gave the officer her ID and then continued to give him a hard time for doing his job.

“I cannot believe these are the people who you protect,” she said.

“Oh, I’m not trying to ‘protect’ anyone. But I do have to enforce the law. Okay? That’s just how it is. Alright?” the officer said.

“Do you see us being subjected to this s--t?” she asked him.

He explained that it was a public display and that the pro-life group had a right to be there, the video showed.

“If you don’t like their speech, you can go away,” the officer suggested. “You don’t have to watch it. You don’t have to be here.”

“They’re here because they want us to watch them,” the girl told him, sounding on the verge of tears.

“Okay but you can ignore them. If you ignore them, that takes away their power. It’s just that simple,” the officer said.

“It doesn’t matter how much you ignore them, they’re gonna come back,” she said, sounding paranoid. “And they’re gonna come back again. And this is why women have such a problem getting abortions in North Carolina. And y’all just let them get away with this s--t.”

Moments later, the officer asked her to take off her backpack and put her hands behind her back.

The video showed her shock when the student realized she was actually going to be arrested for a crime.

“You’re under arrest for larceny,” the officer explained.

“What?” she asked incredulously.

“You’re under arrest for larceny,” he said again. “You admitted to taking his sign.”

“Well, I… all I did was I just walked it over here,” she said, trying to excuse her actions. “I was going to give it back to him. I just… he…”

“Well I don’t know that ma’am,” the officer interrupted her.

He said that when he arrived she was leaning back on the sign. And then he told her there was no need to make a scene.

“Take off your backpack, turn around, and put your hands behind your back,” the officer instructed the student.

“I cannot believe this is happening,” she said, wringing her hands. “Is there something else that I can do?”

“No, I just told you you’re under arrest. I cannot un-arrest you. The judicial system must do that,” he explained.

She complied with his instructions and the officer applied handcuffs. He was joined by a second officer and the two marched the handcuffed student out through the plaza.

Created Equal President Mark Harrington told FOX News that students needed to be taught that just because you disagree with someone doesn’t give you the right to break the law.

“College students who interfere with our First Amendment rights by assaulting us or stealing our signs are not the victims," Harrington said. "Universities are failing to educate students on the basic American ideal of freedom of speech."

I'm glad the little prima donna got arrested. When are people going to realize that their ideology is not everyone else's.

I guess white privilege is just turning around and being arrested instead of screaming insanely, kicking officers in the head and then trying to have all the officers fired for doing their jobs. . . .

We are raising a generation of little dictators who think they can force their opinions on others by any means and with no restrictions. She seemed genuinely shocked that the officer wasn't going to go along with her. There are going to be big problems in this country if law isn't enforced to the letter regardless of your opinion or skin color. The officer was reasonable, explained the situation to her in detail. Will she learn from this or attempt to invoke "Police Brutality" as is over-attempted too very many times. The law is the law and doesn't care about your motives or the amount of melanin in your body.

Excellent police work! Student got what she deserved. Someone is instructing these young people to forcibly and violently take away the right of any free speech not consistent with their beliefs. This is not ignorance of individual rights, this is a focused effort to take away rights and quash any message not to their liking.

It seems her parents failed to teach her that valuable lesson about not taking property that doesn't belong to you. You could see the shock on her face when the officer told her she was under arrest. She'll remember this for the rest of her life. Just a side note - did you notice not a single person not involved in the theft came over trying to defend her actions? I wish this was something taught to the @Hi_estComnDenomn of the world.

Equal rights, not special rights. The officer did his duty and upheld the law as written. About time. Hope no liberal administrators or judges excuse her actions based upon her opinions.

Well, it is Chapel Hill, so it's likely the charges will be dismissed or there will be no punishment, as has happened previously when liberals vandalize things they don't like.... but I'm glad she got arrested by the cop.

I know it's a tough concept, but you can't take stuff that doesn't belong to you. Even if you disagree with it.

Every student who enters college MUST BE informed that taking anyone's property will get them arrested, and they should. I know it's in all their school manuals etc. But these brats need to be told specifically that "property" includes MAGA hats, anti-antifa signs, pro-life signs, etc.
