Hardin County, KY - Two Hardin County deputies got into a physical fight, which left one arrested and suspended from his job.
The Hardin County Sheriff and Jailer held a press conference to address the incident, which was captured on jail surveillance cameras.
Deputy Clennon Smith tried to hand over an inmate's property to Deputy Jailer Joe Funk when Funk threw it back on him. On video, you can see Funk upset and yelling at Smith, although there's no audio.
Deputy Jailer Joe Funk came around the desk and went towards Deputy Clennon Smith with his arms in the air. Smith then grabbed Funk and pushed him against the wall. During the fight, Deputy Smith tried to arrest Funk but he resisted. Deputy Smith reported that he hit Funk several times.
You can see the video of the fight here. Keep in mind, with out the audio, we don't have the full story:
The Sheriff's office released a statement which said, "It is very unfortunate that this incident occurred. Sometimes bad decisions and anger causes people to make the wrong choice."
Funk was determined to be in the wrong, suspended, and arrested. At this time, we can only imagine that Funk was yelling very threatening language at Deputy Smith. Deputy Smith is still on the job.
Deputy Jailer Joe Funk was arrested on menacing, resisting arrest, and assault charges but not booked into jail over safety concerns.
