Broken Bow, OK – Two teenage girls attacked a mother carrying her six-month-old baby at a playground on Wednesday, October 18 (video below).
Janie McCoy said she was on the playground swings with her six-month-old son when three girls ran up to her screaming, according to the New York Post.
Police have made one arrest in connection with the case, but have withheld the suspect’s name.
The juvenile defendant was arraigned, but no details have been released regarding the charges.
The victim said she had no idea why she was attacked.
In the video, posted to YouTube on Monday by the victim’s father, Jeremy McCoy, the victim can be heard asking the group of girls why there was a problem.
“They said that I said something about somebody wanting to fight somebody [and] I had no idea what they [were] talking about,” she said.
One suspect can be heard telling another attacker to "get her baby."
“She said she didn’t care if I had my baby in my hand or not,” McCoy said.
“In that moment, I did not want to fight. I had my son with me and if you know me, then you know that my kid comes first,” McCoy said.
The video showed McCoy trying to leave, but being surrounded by the girls. Then one of the teens punched her in the face.
McCoy was knocked to the ground, with the baby crying in her arms.
McCoy received a busted lip, and a bruised cheek, from the incident, but told reporters she was more worried about her son.
She immediately took him to the doctor to be checked out, and he was fine, she said.
McCoy's father Jeremy said he posted the cell phone video to Facebook in hopes of getting information, and that it was shared about 121,000 times.
The video had been viewed more than 7.5 million times since Monday.
The petition had more than 9,000 signatures at publication time.
