Wyncote, PA - A video is going viral which shows students knocking out a teacher during a fight at Cheltenham High School (video below,) but the principal seems more concerned that somebody brought awareness to an ongoing issue.
The incident took plate around 7:30 AM on Wednesday. The video starts with two female students in a confrontation, and then a fistfight breaks out. Then two more girls jump in to fight.
Teachers tried to jump in to intervene, but the larger girls were able to push the female teacher around. The teacher was then hit in the head, and fell to the ground unconscious. 6ABC reports that the teacher got transported to the hospital.
The school district superintendent sent a letter to parents which said that several teachers were injured in the fight, but the severity of their injuries were not released.
6ABC reports that fighting is an ongoing problem at the school, and this is nothing new. After the teacher was knocked out, there were two more fights later in the same day. There have also been at least a dozen fights over the past four weeks.
"Around 15 I'd say, but there's been a lot. I've been here four years and it's just exponentially growing," said senior Andrew Crosby.
"I'm surprised that it's never been covered until finally there was video evidence of what's going on in that building," said parent Christopher Dean.
This raises the question of why there are not more uniformed officers in the school to protect students and teachers. The school district did not respond 6ABC's calls, but the principal did threaten the person who recorded the fight.
"Those who are found to have filmed a fight will meet with swift disciplinary actions," Principal Ray McFall said.
REALLY?!?! You're students are fighting on a near-daily basis, harming each other and staff, and you're concerned because somebody recorded it? After the principal's comments, the person who uploaded the video pulled it from YouTube.
