VIDEO: Store Owner Arrested For Shooting Man Stealing Beer

Store owner faces attempted murder charge after shooting multiple felon who stole 54 cans of beer.

Lakeland, FL – A Florida man was charged with attempted second-degree murder after he chased down a man who stole beer from his gas station and shot him (video below.)

Rennie Defoe Jr. entered the Shell gas station at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday and can be seen on surveillance video walking in and taking about $36 worth of Natural Ice beer and walking out without paying, according to The Ledger.

Mehedeun Hasan, who co-owns the business with his father, Q.M. Monsur Raham, went and grabbed a 9mm pistol from the store office and then went outside to confront Defoe.

The security video showed Defoe tossing the beer into the passenger seat side of the 2005 Toyota Camry and then closing his door and attempting to drive off while Hasan pointed the gun at him.

Defoe drove off and Hasan shot at him, The Ledger reported. Defoe eventually crashed his vehicle less than a mile from the gas station.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment of a single gunshot to the left arm and chest.

He was listed in critical condition, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Hasan, 22, was arrested on Wednesday. He was also charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Hasan had no prior criminal history.

Defoe, 43, has 12 prior felony charges as well as nine prior misdemeanor charges, according to The Ledger.

Defoe’s priors include firing a missile into a dwelling, domestic battery, grand larceny, grand theft and distributing cocaine within 100 feet of a school.

Defoe has been sent to Florida State Prison four times and was released from prison on June 12.

Firing a missile into a dwelling? Gotta love the penal code sometimes.

Guess his life of crime caught up to him. Too bad the store owner will be paying the price.

The only one I feel sorry for is the store owner. His life will never be the same why that Michael Brown look-alike will have his medical costs covered by the government and then I'm sure he will sue the store.

The punks luck ran out.Its a shame that an otherwise law abiding citizen had to put a stop to the scums crimes when the justice system failed .....If I was on the jury he would walk.

Understand the frustration but using deadly force for $36 (retail) in beer is stupid. Now the shooter and his father will pay a ton more!

That the suspect was even out and free to rob and terrorize again is a gross failure of the Justice system but if the man who shot him wasn't in immediate danger and in fear for his life he shouldn't've taken the shot. Is this "fair"? No, but the fact that the system failed doesn't give him the right to take the law into his own hands.

So now a store owner can't use a legit and loaded gun to shoot at a 'felon' who is in the act of committing the crime of burglary and running away, while the entire crime is on video? Where the hell have our priorities gone, when a burglar caught in the act of committing a crime is NO longer the suspect and arrested, but the law-abiding citizen with a law-abiding gun is? Release that 22 yr old store owners son now, and arrest the criminal who is a repeat felon, that obviously hasn't had enough prison time and punishment.

Let's drain the swamp........and that includes 'judges' who have screwed up our Justice System to the hilt!

What happened to the 3 strikes law??? This POS should still be in prison!! I wouldn't have shot him but I would have shot out his tires or into the engine of the car.

Sometimes store owners get tired of being victimized. I assure you this store has been hit many times if it came down to this. Plus, had he caught the guy prior to him driving off, you would probably be reading about how that Mike Brown thug beat the store owner to death.

Besides, Bluto would have been proud. Alcohol theft is serious business.

If it's not worth dying for, it's not worth shooting for.
