VIDEO: Soon-To-Be Former Cop Kicks Suspect's Head Like Soccer Ball

A Miami police officer was suspended after he was caught on video delivering a running kick to a suspect's head.

Miami, FL – A Miami police officer was suspended on Thursday after a video surfaced on Facebook that showed him kicking a suspect in the head while the man was being handcuffed (video below).

“The video depicts a clear violation of policy,” Miami Police Chief Jorge R. Colina said in a statement, The Washington Post reported.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle ordered an investigation that could lead to possible prosecution of the officer, who has been identified as Miami Police Officer Mario Figueroa, the Miami Herald reported.

The incident took place just before 10 a.m. on Thursday, when Miami police officers chased a suspected car thief into Culmer Apartments on Northwest Eighth Street and Seventh Avenue in the Overtown section of Miami.

Resident Lisa Harrell captured the end of the chase on video as the suspect, 31-year-old David Vladim Suazo, found himself trapped in a courtyard of the apartment complex, the Miami Herald reported.

Harrell told the Miami Herald she saw Suazo running back and forth through courtyards in the apartment complex until he realized he had no way out, and gave himself up.

"He ran around and then he was face-to-face with police," Harrell said. "He put his hands on his head. The police said lay down. He did. And then the police just came and kicked him."

In the video, Suazo was prone on the grass with his arms behind his back. An officer went over and began to put handcuffs on him.

Then, from the right side of the screen, Officer Figueroa ran towards the suspect and delivered a running kick to his head, before jumping on top of him to assist with the arrest, the video showed.

The police report was released on late Thursday afternoon and explained that officers had spotted the suspect in a stolen Jeep Cherokee and pursued him.

Suazo crashed the Jeep over the sidewalk and into a walk, before he jumped out and fled on foot, according to the report.

Police said that at first, when officers caught up with him, Suazo had refused to comply with police commands, the Miami Herald reported.

The police report said Suazo took a fighting stance at Officer Figueroa and the officer deployed his Taser at the suspect, but it was ineffective.

Then another officer fired a Taser at Suazo and took him to the ground, the report said.

The report does not mention Officer Figueroa’s kick to the suspect’s head, the Miami Herald reported.

Fernandez Rundle said she watched the video “with indignation” and has instructed Assistant State Attorney Johnette Hardiman, of the department's public corruption unit, to immediately start an investigation.

"I was shocked and appalled by what I saw," the state attorney said.

Officer Figueroa was immediately suspended, pending an investigation. He has been a member of the Miami PD for two years.

Suazo was charged with vehicle theft, fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, and resisting an officer without violence, The Washington Post reported.

Watch the officer take a running kick at the suspect’s head in the video below:

Those damn liberals, making cops out to be bad guys.

Maybe if one of the good cops surrounding him handled this bully on the spot, the headline would actually praise a good cop.

@Hi_estComnDenomn Yet another embarrassing comment from our resident troll. Well done, Cheech. There is not a person on this site that would blame anyone other than the officer who used excessive force. That officer should be arrested and if the other officer present failed to report what happened he should be fired. Hope that clarifies things for you but since you're a little bit of a slow learner, I suspect not.

Oh look, the anarchist cop-hater is first on the scene! Score one for Low_estPOS! Yeah, this is cop that will pay the price! Not the norm, but, you wouldn't buy into that, would you, race baiter?

What was he thinking? He seemed to have full view of the situation and the guy didn't seem to be resisting. I think his career in law enforcement is over, and rightfully so.

I'm surprised this display of unnecessary violence appeared on this website. That video doesn't paint the officer in a good light and this is a pro - law enforcement website. But at least it was caught on video and the officer can face the consequences of his actions.

As a cop myself I am disgusted with what that officer did! No excuse whatsoever....adrenaline can make one do stupid things but you have to be able to control it and do the right thing....Thats what makes a good cop! Self control and dicipline in the heat of the moment!

"All " cops do not act out like this. But then since you are a far left liberal that explains your attitude. What this cop did was obviously wrong and of course he should be punished for doing this and fired. But don't make
all police officers out to be bad. Most police officers are good people.

The guy was down, not resisting and he gets kicked. I normally always side with the cops but this one needs to be kicked out. Shame on him. He's the ones that give the rest of them a bad name.

Really stupid move on the officers part and he will be dealt with, but the headline is misleading. The POS saw the officer coming and turned his head and to me, he was barely even touched. And no report that he was injured at all.

@Hi_estComnDenomn must be one of your aliases that you occasionally plant on this site to prove your point. If it's not, I doubt they are in law enforcement. Either way, as you can see all of the other comments overwhelmingly are in favor of getting rid of that officer.

Good job by the cop! Don't run from the police and this won't happen but of course the softie criminal lovers will have their say.

JBo

gfc1963...it was the wrong move on the cop's part. He should never have done it. At the time of the kick, he wasn't running. As for being a softie criminal lover, not really. Retired cop with 30+ years who knows that this doesn't help the public's perception of us.

You did say “all cops” “ acting how they would act when they don't know a camera is on them.”

@Betts122 was correct.

Wow, he got fired. How terrible. He'll be assaulting whoever he wants when he's hired by another police force in a few weeks. Same thing happened in Ohio yesterday. Caught on film. That cop got the normal paid vacation.

This idiot is the kind that gives law enforcement a black eye and reflects on the 99 percent of officers who strive to do the right thing. He does need to be fired.

Not good. Cops don’t need these rogue warriors in their departments. Makes them all look bad & puts all their lives in danger. The war against cops is bad enough. Why would any one of them want to add to it? Worse, taking down their fellow officers with them. ? Smh

He definitely needed a damn good kick! Why is everyone always whining over the criminal? That ass coulda killed someone with the vehicle or gotten the police injured! Please people when a criminal hurts you or your family make sure to take care of him🤬 and don’t bother the police.

You can't act unlawfully just due to a criminals actions. If so, then a citizen should kick the head of an officer when the officer makes an unlawful stop/search/arrest. Get it?

tfort
tfort

You are doing nothing more than repeated what we have all heard a million times. You are just here to show off. This cop is what causes the good cops problems. This video gets viewed hundreds of times and it makes people afraid of cops. You need to stop. You can't act unlawfully no matter who you are.

Old Hawg

There's not much I can add to what has already been said. Yeah, chases get your adrenaline pumping but there is absolutely no excuse for losing control like this. Anyone who can't keep self-control and self-discipline is in the wrong line of work wearing a badge and must go. Oh, in case you trolls missed the point, nobody has more contempt for a bad cop than a good cop.

Lt Retired OCPD

Certainly not a good move. The perp was under control and was not resisting at the time. Adrenaline and frustration can cause this for sure. Please guys, control your actions. Everyone is looking and filming. Do what you should do anyway.

Well said. This was way out of line, and at a time when all eyes are on America's Finest. In this case, the cop needs to face all consequences. Now the P.D. has to face a potential lawsuit amongst other things.

@Heezels
You mean the video makes an assumption of behavior. The video is also the evidence, because he assaulted someone in a vacuum. Him doing that when he thought no one was watching should call into question any arrest he's been involved with where someone reported excessive force.

LEO0301

@Hi_estComnDenomn Your team consists of people you might find at a club like the Pulse. I know you have become infatuated with me but I'm really not into that type of behavior, Cheech. Sorry to disappoint you.

What you just said amounted to "you have gay friends."

Well, i do, because sexual orientation doesn't dictate who i call a friend. I guess i should be like you and shun them because they like dudes, right Skip?

LEO0301
LEO0301

@Hi_estComnDenomn I know gay people and couldn't care less what they do in the privacy of their own homes. I can't say that I am friends with any of them but I am also not their enemy. I even know gay police officers. So long as they are capable of doing the job, so what? As far as the team you're on, it's okay in this day and age to come out of the closet, Cheech, but you should probably tell your wife first.

How come the officer hasn't been arrested yet?

GreenMarine50
GreenMarine50

@Hi_estComnDenomn)Cops (we) don't give a rip about sexual preference. Law enforcement is one of the rare professions where the gay community has a solid presence and has for a very long time. Where you fail in your effort to stir the pot is the fact we know more about the real world than any other group of people. We are subject to observing the most secret and intimate parts of private life while responding to calls for service. I worked with homosexual people my entire career, in fact my very first supervisor was a gay woman who is still one of the smartest, toughest, and best cops I know. #Troll

GreenMarine50
GreenMarine50

@Burgers All day, there is a step by step process involved just like any other crime. However, the fact it involves an on duty officer means overlapping investigations and added steps, such as community oversight and internal investigation followed by command staff review.

Burgers Allday
Burgers Allday

There is enough here to establish probable cause for an arrest. They can investigate all they want after the police officer is safely behind bars.
