Sarasota County, FL - Surveillance footage captured the moment a man in Sarasota County used a machete to fight off armed robbers (video below.)
At around 4:45 AM Thursday morning, police responded to a report of a suspicious person armed with a rifle in the 2100 block of Dodge Ave.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's office reports that, "As deputies were responding, more information was gathered indicating that the homeowner disarmed the suspect and was holding him until law enforcement arrived."
The victim was able to provide a description of four other suspects who were involved. Based on the description deputies were able to locate the suspects at a gas station in the 5600 block of Fruitville Road
Video shows the suspects enter the victim's home while armed with a shotgun, machete, and crowbar. When the suspects attempted to rob the victim, the victim armed himself with a machete and fought the robbers off.
All five men were interviewed by detectives and two of them admitted to committing the robbery.
Alen Beltran-Vazquez is charged with two counts of Armed Robbery and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Ronier Jauregui-Lorente and Angel Cabrera-Basulto are each charged with two counts of Armed Robbery.
Jorge Valido-Leyva and Roberto Salcedo-Balanza face two counts each of Principal to Armed Robbery.
All five men are in custody at the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
