VIDEO: Politicians Demand Deputy's Termination After Video Of Teen's Arrest

A now-viral video showed Broward sheriff's deputies deploying pepper spray and using force on a 15-year-old boy.

Tamarac, FL – A deputy is under investigation after he pepper-sprayed and arrested a non-compliant 15-year-old boy on Thursday (video below).

The incident happened in front of the McDonald’s restaurant in the Tamarac Town Square Plaza on Pine Island Road after school hours on April 18, WPLG reported.

That location has been a popular spot for high school students to meet up and fight after classes let out, and so Broward sheriff’s deputies had been assigned to patrol the area.

In the arrest report, Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Krickovich wrote that a fight in the same spot the prior day had resulted in damage to an innocent bystander’s vehicle, according to WPLG.

Deputy Krickovich wrote that he recognized one of the teens as a boy who had been trespassed from the shopping center property the day before, so he and a sergeant on the scene told the boy to sit down on the curb.

The boy refused to comply with officers’ commands and so Deputy Krickovich took him to the ground and officers handcuffed him face down on the pavement, the video showed.

While they were doing that, a female student tried to grab the cell phone dropped by the boy who was being arrested, but the sergeant kicked it out of her reach.

The video showed the crowd of more than 50 teenagers was encroaching on the deputies as they tried to gain control of the situation.

"Again, the three of us were outnumbered by the large group of students who were yelling, threatening us, and surrounding us. I had to act quickly, fearing I would get struck or having a student potentially grab weapons off my belt or vest," Deputy Krickovich wrote in the arrest report, according to WPLG.

In the video, another boy in a red tank top bent over and made a grab for the phone, who deployed pepper spray in the boy’s direction.

The boy in the red tank top backed away but the sergeant followed and took him to the ground to arrest him, the video showed.

At that point, Deputy Krickovich and another deputy jumped on top of the struggling boy to try and gain control of him and apply handcuffs.

The deputy could be seen trying to push the teen's head to the ground as the teen tried to hold himself up.

During the struggle, the teen's head hit the ground. It's not clear if the deputy intended to slam is head down, or if it was the result of the deputy trying to hold him down as the teen resisted.

Deputy Krickovich wrote in his report that, during the struggle, he had to punch the boy in the head as a “distractionary technique” to free the boy’s hand, which he was holding under his head.

Eventually, deputies were able to handcuff the boy, and when they sat him up, his face looked to be bleeding from its contact with the pavement but he was otherwise uninjured.

He was charged with aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest without violence and trespassing, WPLG reported.

When he appeared in court later the same day, the judge agreed to downgrade the aggravated assault charge to simple assault, but he upheld the charge for resisting arrest.

The 15 year old was released into the custody of his mother after his court appearance, WPLG reported.

Other students who were present to witness the fight that was supposed to have happened after school filmed the altercation on their cell phones and posted it to social media, where it quickly went viral.

Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen quickly released an outraged statement that called for the termination of Deputy Krickovich, WPLG reported.

"The behavior of these Broward Sheriff's Office deputies was outrageous and unacceptable," the statement read. "The officer who jumped on the student, punched the student and banged his head to the ground should be fired immediately. There is no excuse for a law enforcement officer to harm a teenager who was on the ground and who gave no resistance.”

“I also have a problem with the deputy who threw the student to the ground after he pepper sprayed him,” the mayor continued. “After being sprayed, the teen held his face and walked away. If the deputy wanted to arrest the student, he could have easily done so without throwing him to the ground. I hope the appropriate authorities investigate this conduct and take the appropriate action."

Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony, who took office in January after newly-elected Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suspended former Broward Sheriff Scott Israel, pledged transparency into his department’s investigation into the incident, according to WPLG.

"Roughly 90 days ago, I was appointed to this position exclusively about accountability. And that accountability will be held, not just for the sake of when we are right, but in the cases where we may be wrong," Sheriff Tony promised as he asked the community for patience on Friday while the incident was investigated.

"We vow to conduct an open, transparent and thorough investigation into the incident that occurred April 18 in Tamarac. The deputy has been placed on restrictive administrative assignment,” the sheriff said in a statement.

Did you read the same story above. the kid refused to comply. the use of force matrix allows officers to be one step higher. how about the kid complying with the orders and maybe this would not have went down like it did.

Any cop who has been in this situation knows you have to take quick, decisive action. Every arrest of someone who is resisting looks bad when viewed on tape. That's because the officer has to use more force than is being offered. Politicians who know nothing about what it's like to be in this situation should shut up and stop creating problems where there is none.

I'm sorry but look at how those kids are acting ? 0 respect for law enforcement and they were told not to touch the phone but rather than listen they still tried to take the phone ! They got what they deserved!. And if no one thinks so? Then you are what's wrong with this country ! A bunch of disrespectful entitled little shitheads that have no respect for authority!. Because most of them were raised by idiots just like them. Back the blue !!.

Right after this happened it was shared on Twitter with the kids calling for everyone to attend a BLM meeting this weekend. I said I would wait for the sheriff to conduct an investigation before I draw a conclusion, but after watching a couple of videos from different angles, I could see where the officers were justified. The first videos released did not show enough, and were very prejudicial. Wow, I got massively attacked after saying that, and I haven't been to twitter yet today, but I suspect there are more attacks waiting for me when I get there. As I said, I will wait for the sheriff's investigation to complete, and hopefully, they have other videos, including police cams.

These politicians need to understand that sometimes force needs to be used on these animals, even if they are teenagers. They have no respect for anybody. If my kid did what these kids did and disrespected law enforcement, my kid would not only be held accountable to the law but to me as well. These kids are coddled and told by the adults in their lives that it is ok to defy the law and law enforcement.

BruthaV

It's simple, really: follow an officer's command/directive, or get treated accordingly. There are consequences to defiance. The mayor of Broward County is an imbecile.

There was nothing this officer did that warrants what these political know it all arm chair quarterbacks are screaming for.

This kid was noncompliant. Noncompliance brings you the next level of force, force that YOU have brought down upon yourself for not cooperating in the first place.

Had this been a white teenager, no one would have said anything and this wouldn't appear on Blue Lives Matter as a story.

Sorry - not sorry. These kids have grown up with violence and their lack of respect for police officers is apparent. If they would comply with what the police asked (or better yet, didn't gather at a place to fight) then they wouldn't have to worry about being pepper sprayed, etc. Parents, take control of your child or take responsibility when they do something that will obviously get them in trouble or hurt.

"Gave no resistance?" No, he refused to comply with the officer's request initially. If they truly were sent there to stop the fights...the officers have to act, and act accordingly they did. "Released into the custody of his mother?" That will not have much effect in changing his behavior in the future, I am sure.

Make an example of this cop. Video the. Op getting beat like he beats this kid, goes viral..... and you will have every cop think twice before it happens again.

Not resisting? If it takes more than one person to cuff you because you're struggling to get up? That's resisting. As noted, he'd already been trespassed, enough to get him arrested in the first place. And no, 15-year-olds as big as men are not "boys" or "children"

The answer is simple..do NOT involve yourself in a street mob...do NOT stand around and goad/harass law enforcement surrounding them in a threatening manner..do NOT whine and complain when young people who CHOOSE to behave like idiot punks get treated like idiot punks.

A job well done by officers in this situation. As for the mayor. If your are that concerned that you can arm chair coach a officer doing as he is trained. I would suggest you go to this area daily for at least the end of school term. Try and control this folks. The can and will hurt you or law enforcement officers. They have NO respect to authority.
You should be ashamed not to back law enforcement doing a thankless job. Protecting other people, places and things. They were requested to be there. What would you say if a child is killed or maimed because the lack of enforcement. Great job SO officers. Be safe. Keep your body cams on!!

A few hours after meeting with the family of a high school student whose head was slammed into the pavement during a rough arrest that was captured on cellphone video last week, Broward County prosecutors said they were dropping all the charges against the teenager.

“The Broward State Attorney’s Office has made the decision that we will not file any charges against the 15-year-old juvenile who was arrested on Thursday in Tamarac,” according to a statement released early Tuesday evening.

The two Broward Sheriff’s deputies who arrested DeLucca Rolle also have been suspended during a continuing investigation into their conduct, prosecutors said in the same statement.

This is what happens when black youths are raised with no discipline in their lives and no respect for authority and more importantly, no punishment for their defiant actions.

Insufficient number of personnel on scene to address the problem. Insufficient number of personnel created the need to respond quickly to the actions of the 15 year old "Adam Henry." I didn't personally see much of a struggle to get the hands out and they cuffed the little "DB" fairly quickly. On another note if you got your officers out of tactical vests and other SWAT garb and put them in a uniform in lieu of a military presence it might help the overall image.

The worst fight I ever got into on the street was with an 11 or 12 year old, who had a golf club, and on a Sunday morning was out decapitating flowers in yards as he went up and down the street. People were watching from their windows, the kid was very agile, and trying to hold onto him was a real challenge. Not so the bigger guys I could climb like a telephone pole, hang on to them and take them to the ground. There was no pinning this kid.

“When you have well-trained police following policies and procedures of responsible sheriff’s departments, when they encounter a crowd of young people, then they will strive to de-escalate the situation,” Crump said Wednesday.

“That would be Policing 101. However what we saw was Racism 101 and they came and ratcheted up the situation, escalated the situation and commotion, and you saw then pepper spray Lucca and when Lucca walked away from them, grab him, slam him to the ground, hit his head against the concrete on more than one occasion and then punch him which clearly is in no one’s training manual.

“They lied. [They said] Lucca was reaching for the cop’s gun. It’s just ridiculous, an outright lie.”

Seems like the politicians and the elected sheriff are simply pandering to the community outrage and scapegoating the officers for the kids poor behavior. it's not the fault of the criminals for breaking the law, or their actions in failing to comply with a lawful order from police; lets just blame the cops because these violent individuals (who happen to be under 18) decided it would be better to "fight the police" and resist arrest.

Dropping the charges involving a lawful arrest is one of the worst decisions that could be made, as it teaches these impressionable youths that if you complain enough about something, even if you were in the wrong, and threaten a lawsuit, whatever bad actions you committed will just go away.

PSC 1060
PSC 1060

As usual, it's law enforcement's fault and the public has NOT ONE OUNCE of responsibility for their own actions... let's have a no law enforcement week and see how the safe the politicians feel... guarantee they would change their minds in a second... just walk in their shoes for one day before judging!!

Do what you are told ,there will be no problems, otherwise you are doing nothing more that asking for problems by not complying,Too much of this going on in this country today, there will be law and order like it or not...I blame many of these problems on what they are being taught by various teachers and very lax laws that allow these kids to be freed to their parents instead of a juvenile hall where they need to be....They know what they can get away with and that needs to change to knowing what they cannot get away with.

Have you noticed that these scenarios are always showcasing US blacks as the primary ( if not the entire ) group of unruly /out of control /disrespectful/lawless participants ?? I'm sure exceptions must exist somewhere .....but just not seeing it with any other minority except for this group. No matter what others observe about them they appear to have no shame, no remorse, no self control, no respect ........Is it any wonder that they are shunned ? Many who come to the US from other international countries don't bring the same behaviors "to the table". Yet those blacks who are raised in this country display these same cliche' behaviors with such frequency as if any observer could describe the situation in advance of the actions being displayed. Prejudiced ? Racist? ..........or is it just far too common to ignore the repetitive patterns you see or read? Refuse to be too PC to admit it.

Instead of all of these cry baby liberals wanting to vilify police officers who go out and put their life on the line daily in order to protect the public that doesn't appreciate them. Maybe they could stop the bitching and moaning long enough to sit the disrespectful little thugs they raised that it's not ok to try and interfere with law enforcement when they are performing their duties. These unruly punks had gathered up into an unruly mob and it was up to these officers who were greatly outnumbered to restore order.I've personally been in situations like this on several occasions and speaking from experience can say in situations like these you have to act quickly and decisively if you want to have any chance of getting things under control. If not you'll end up with more fights breaking out as people try and take sides and the adrenalin is pumping. And the blame in these situations can't be put on the police and in a lot of cases the kids. But lays at the feet of the parents who teach the kids not to respect the police and raise them to feel they are the enemy. If someone wants to be outraged by anything that transpired in this situation. It should be that this gang of hoodlums gathers at this business on a regular basis to fight. And that this kid was trespassing after being told the day before not to come back on the property. Showing he wasn't concerned at all about following the law.
