Pelham, NH - Pelham PD officers responded to a disturbance between Christopher Lanzillo and his brothers, and when they arrived, Lanzillo confronted them with a knife. The incident was captured on dash camera video (below.)
When officers arrived at the disturbance on Wednesday, Christopher Lanzillo was intoxicated with a knife in-hand. Lanzillo had just assaulted one of his brothers and took a knife to his other brother's car.
“I got out of my car and drew my weapon and told him to drop the knife. He refused and things progressed from there,” Master Patrol Officer Brian Kelly told Union Leader. “He was asking me to shoot him, which I really didn’t want to have to do and that went on for a little while.”
Christopher Lanzillo shouted profanities at the officers, threatened them with the knife, and told them to shoot him.
Lanzillo suddenly and repeatedly took a shooting stance with the knife, possibly to trick officers into thinking that he had a gun. It had already been made clear that he was holding a knife.
Finally, Lanzillo threw the knife to the ground and surrendered.
“I don’t think it could have gone any better than it did. Everybody went home safe. Everybody who needs help is getting help. I couldn’t be more proud of the officers I work with,” Officer Kelly said.
Lanzillo is being charged with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, simple assault, disorderly conduct and four counts of criminal mischief.
He was arraigned on Thursday and the judge ordered him held on $25,000 cash bail.
