Orange, California - What would you do if your suspect grabs a gas can and a lighter? If you're these quick-thinking cops, you grab a fire hose.
Fox 32 Chicago reports that officers attempted to stop a van for a vehicle code violation at around 11:15 PM Sunday night. The driver of the white GMC van failed to yield to emergency vehicles, before parking at Katella Avenue and Glassell St.
Once the man stopped, he pulled out a gas can and a lighter. The man made threats with the gas can, lit a cigarette, and poured some gas on a rag.
The officers could have left the man to blow himself up, but instead, they came up with an ingenious idea to save him. The officers used a fire department hose to simultaneously flush the man out of the van, and extinguish the flame. The moment was captured on video by a camera crew.
The plan worked great, until the man pulled a knife after being flushed out, forcing an officer to fatally shoot him.
These heroes did a great job when confronted with a dangerous situation. It seems that the man just really wanted to die, and he wasn't going to let the police stop him.
