Lansing, Illinois - An off-duty Lansing police officer was recorded on a now-viral video holding down a teen who had approached him on his lawn (video below.)

The incident started Saturday afternoon at around 3:45 PM when two teens got into a physical altercation with another group near 192nd Street and Oakwood Avenue. The police were called, and the pair fled before officers arrived.

The pair ran into the off-duty officer's yard, and what happened next isn't clear. The video starts showing the off-duty officer holding one of the 15-year-old teens down.

The video was posted by somebody who claims to be the cousin of the teen being held down, and claims that he was "damn near killed," saying:

"So this is what happens when you walk on someone's grass. My little cousin is damn near killed. This guy is a LANSING POLICE OFFICER and our family can't get anywhere filing a report on him. I reed FB to share and share this needs to go VIRAL!! I'm sick of walking while black being a problem! As you can hear his friend videoing is not black but he's not being harassed!!"

The teen was not reportedly injured and the Lansing Police Department launched an investigation prior to the video going up on the internet, but telling the truth doesn't get you likes and shares.

The media is pushing the outrage, claiming that the officer threatened to kill the teen because in the video the teen says, "Let me go."

Then the officer responded, "No, you are on my f-ing property. I could f-ing kill you."

That doesn't exactly constitute a threat, but "Off-duty cop yells at teen" doesn't sell as well as "threatening his life."

The off-duty officer held the teen down until on-duty officers arrived and took over.

The teens were interviewed and taken home to their parents; no arrest were made at the time.

Ever since the video went up on social media, people have been posting the officer's name and address online along with suggestions that people retaliate.

The Lansing Police Department released the following statement on the incident:

"On June 24th, 2017 at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Lansing Police Department was dispatched to the area of 192 and Oakwood Avenue for a fight involving numerous juveniles.

According to the initial reports, officers located several of the juveniles involved in the incident. An off-duty Lansing Police Officer, outside on his personal property, became involved when he was approached by two other subjects involved in the fight.

One of the juveniles had visible minor injuries, and the other was temporarily detained for further investigation until the arrival of on-duty officers. The juvenile's parents were ultimately contacted and they were transported home pending further investigation.

The Lansing Police Department is aware of the video that has been subsequently posted on social media regarding the incident, and had initiated an investigation into the matter prior to its
public posting"
