VIDEO: NAACP President Claims He Was Profiled On Stop, Then Chief Releases Video

The police chief has openly called NAACP President Rev. Jerrod Moultrie a liar after his false accusations.

Timmonsville, SC - The South Carolina NAACP president posted about how he was racially profiled on a traffic stop, and now the police chief has responded by releasing bodycam video and calling him a liar (video below.)

NAACP President Rev. Jerrod Moultrie posted to Facebook on April 13 about how he was just racially profiled on a traffic stop.

The allegations in his account are disturbing, and would indicate profiling by the officer - except none of it was true.

Below is a transcript of the interaction as posted by Rev. Moultrie:

Me: hello sir how can I help you

Officer: I am stopping you cause you fail to put on a turn signal and do you have any drugs in the car

Me: sir how would you know If I used my tum signal when you was approaching me as I turn and is there any drugs in your car?

Officer: License and registration

Me:sir can I take off my seat belt and get it

Officer: sure

Me: (as i open glove box i said )sir this is a new car i just purchased and all ! have is bill of sale, insurance card and registration from car I am transferring tags

Officer: ok where you work and who car is this and why you in this neighborhood

Me: sir I am a pastor and I live in the house on the left

Officer:And I guess I am the bill gates

Me: sir what's the problem

Officer: I ask who car for the last time and why you in this neighborhood

Me: I told you for last time who car and where I live.( as my neighborhood starts to come out there house) By the way sir can I speak to your supervisor

Officer: walks away with my information When he returned he said did you know your tags comes back to another vehicle

Me: sir I just explain this to you

Officer: you need to park this vehicle and never drive it till you get this straight with DMV

Me: sir I have purchased multiple vehicles and never heard this now officer and I start fussing cause I said well i will be driving my car sir and anyt time I want

Officer: I am waming you to not drive this car till tags get straight and just know I am doing you a favor tonight not taking you to jail or writing you a ticket

Me: sir you might be doing your Self a favor but you certainly not doing me a favor.

The reverend finished off his post by saying that his wife and baby were in the back seat, but still he was profiled and accused of having drugs.

"Guess I can't be a pastor and can't drive a Mercedes Benz and live in a nice neighborhood," Rev. Moultrie said. "...someone needs to answer for this behavior and this officer will."

After seeing the post, local community activist Timothy Waters went down to the police department to look at the bodycam and dash camera footage, according to WPDE.

He was shocked to see that everything the reverend said was a lie.

"Once I got a copy of that body cam, it's as if he made the whole story up. And I felt like he set us back 100 years, because think about all of the racial profiling cases (that) are true," Waters told WPDE.

WPDE reports that Timmonsville Police Chief Billy Brown said that Rev. Moultrie even went so far as to contact him the next morning to claim that he had been racially profiled and mistreated.

"He made a comment that the officer accused him of having drugs in the car. He said that his wife and grandchild was in the car. He asked them not to move because the officer looked as if he might shoot them or something. He also made mention that the officer continued to ask him about his neighborhood. Why was he in that neighborhood? And threaten(ed) to put him in jail in reference to something dealing with the registration to the vehicle," Chief Brown told WPDE. Except all of those accusations were lies.

"When I saw the video, I was shocked that someone who is supposed to be a community leader, a pastor, and head of the NAACP would just come out and tell a blatant lie. It bothered me. It really bothered me, thinking about the racial unrest it could've cost in the community and it's just troubling to me that someone who held a position like that would come out and just tell a lie," Brown told WPDE.

Rev. Moultrie refused to comment to the news station, and instead referred them to Timmonsville NAACP officers Kenneth McAllister and Henry James Dixon.

Both men told the station that they didn't need to see the video because they support Rev. Moultrie, and know that he's a man of integrity who wouldn't lie.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Compulsive lying describes a condition in which a person tells falsehoods out of habit, sometimes for no reason at all. It is also known as pathological lying, mythomania, and habitual lying.
A German physician named Dr. Delbruck first described the condition in 1891. Five of his patients had a habit of telling excessively large lies. He named their behavior pseudologia phantastica (spelled pseudologia fantastica in American English).

Many people are dishonest on occasion. Yet pathological liars tend to lie more frequently regardless of context.

...
Compulsive Lying vs. Pathological Lying:
The terms “compulsive lying” and “pathological lying” are often used interchangeably. Medical literature currently does not differentiate between these terms. Yet there are professionals within the mental health community who classify the terms as subtly different conditions.

In this framework, compulsive lying is the habit of telling falsehoods uncontrollably. People in this category may be more comfortable telling lies than telling the truth. They may lie repeatedly about important as well as unimportant matters.

People who lie compulsively often have no ulterior motive. They may even tell lies which damage their own reputations. Even after their falsehoods have been exposed, people who lie compulsively may have difficulty admitting the truth.
...
Meanwhile, pathological lying often involves a clear motive. A person may lie to gain attention or admiration. Other lies may be designed to garner pity or help from others. Even self-harming lies may provide some form of internal gratification.

People who lie pathologically may mix falsehoods with the truth to make their lies more credible. As such, pathological lying is often considered a subtler form of manipulation than compulsive lying.

Kenneth McAllister and Henry James Dixon of the NAACP support this lying Rev. and continue to believe he has integrity. Case after case of lying about racial profiling and police brutality shows how much integrity there is in the NAACP--None! It seems Rev. Moultrie should be kicked out of both his church and NAACP.

He lied. He would not admit it. Then he gives it to his buddies who say he would not lie. So they are all guilty of the same thing. Stupidity. And they try to make the officers the bad one's here. So bad. He will rot in hell one day for that. And he is supposed to be a preacher. BS.......]

I can only imagine the riots this lie would have sparked if there had been no body cam. Half the county ablaze because "some racist cop pulled a Mississippi Burning on the poor, nice reverend". Who by the way looks intoxicated to me.

Very disturbing. I was brought up to respect the law, and, except for a few instances, my interaction with police officers has always been positive. This video just reinforces my opinion that the problems that plague the Black community lie within the Black community itself. Black leaders, for the most part, do a tremendous disservice to those who follow them blindly. So glad the officer was wearing his Body Cam.

There are a more than a few things that stop a police officer from viewing the driver and their passengers in a vehicle like the glare from the sun, tinted windows, hours of darkness, a lack of artificial light and the angle of both cars. There are times the police officer has no idea what race or ethnic group of the driver is until they are face to face.

Police Office was very polite and make of fact with his information he gave the man. He in no way was a threat to him or his family. Just sounds like someone who thinks he is above the law and any time he is stopped or questioned it is someone else's fault. That was one very professional Police Officer and should be congratulated for his tolerance and respect for the individual and his family.

I've been lied on in my 30 year career (gotta love video and audio to show who the liar is) by violators too, and had one that was this blatant. The defendant's attorney later apologized in open court and amended his original motion to suppress for the court record, but only after it was apparent the entire video was going to be played before the judge hearing the motion. The defendant was white and I'm white, so race didn't play a factor in that one but THIS one takes the cake and was even worse than mine!

I believe in equality in all races in the U.S and abroad! I t is a shame that a so called Reverend has come to this point, with a lie! to make himself to be a victim of racism with all the corruption in the police force, to knock a good officer that gave him the respect he deserved, that other victims that has died and was really victims of racism did not get the chance to walk away. Instead of him lying! he could have use this as a testimony that good police are still out here.

I wonder if there is a different explanation.
If the driver anticipated a bad interaction and was stressed by the interaction. He may have had stress induced perception distortion. Stress induced perception distortion happens all the time. It is much easier to just say he lied and was trying to create a problem. Maybe, maybe not. The essence of professionalism is to look for an alternative explanation and attempt to see from another's perspective. I know I might be freaked out if I was visiting Russia and on a back road at night and ask to "see my papers". I then would have stress and the officers accent to mess with my perception and memory of the event. I don't know if that was what happened, but I constantly have to remind myself that I haven't lived in South Carolina in a black person's skin. The officer was hard to understand and I think the interaction may have been improved if he had spoken more clearly. Yet, he appears to have performed his duties in a professional and understanding manner.

My uncle started using dash cam video & microphone in the late 80s/early 90s, that he paid for himself. I can't tell you how many cases went bye bye when they realized they had video. When that guy had been found that had kidnapped those 3 girls, my uncle had dash cam video of pulling him over. Too bad he had no idea who he was or what was in his house of horrors.

As far as I'm concerned, it's very likely that most reports of racist behavior from cops are lies. Every time something like this comes up, bam, here's a video that proves they were lying.

JorgeTx , People like yourself are a huge part of the problems we are having today. The video clearly shows what happened and yet you are saying that because of the stress of Black in South Carolina caused him hallucinate a separate set of events.
What he says happened and what we saw are not close. The video shows the events that happened that night. If the way the officer was talking allows your mind to say this guy perceived the officer threatened to put him in jail over problems with his registration. This guy truly believed and perceived that he was accused of selling drugs and repeatedly questioned about being in the wrong neighborhood. Finally you finish off what was left of your intellectual reputation by comparing this citizen of the US in His home state of South Carolina where he is the president of a prominent civil rights organization to some sap American visiting a small town in backwoods Russia being stopped and being asked to show his papers. I’m sure your story takes place in the mid 1970’s USSR, KGB Officer Putin was the one pulling people over. Will you make these arguments on behalf of President Trump if he does a deposition with Mueller? After all, he will be nervous, big time so he will clearly be suffering stress induced perception disorder.

Its really sad when a man that is supposed to be a religious one is instead being a useful tool for the devil. He really needs to put God back into his life. Someone that is supposed to be helping the poor is driving a fancy car, sad isn't it. Beware of wolves in sheep's clothes ! Prime example. Its great that they have body cams now for their lies can be exposed.
