VIDEO: Man Gets Pepper Sprayed, Spits It Back In Cop's Face
Tulsa, OK – Tulsa police recently released bodycam video of a 25-year-old man screaming for his mother as he spit pepper spray back in a police sergeant’s face during a traffic stop (video below).
The incident occurred on the evening of Sept. 25 when a Tulsa police sergeant stopped Marico Ferrick for a broken taillight, KOKI reported.
Bodycam video showed the sergeant pulled up behind Ferrick as he parked a white pickup truck in a parking lot at South Sheridan and 9th Street.
Ferrick opened the driver’s door and started to hop out of the truck as soon as he stopped, but the sergeant ordered him to stay in the vehicle as he approached with his duty weapon drawn, the video showed.
That’s when Ferrick started screaming for his mother, the video showed.
“Mama! Mama! Mama!” he yelled at the top of his lungs.
“She’s in there,” Ferrick told the approaching sergeant, who couldn’t have cared less.
The video showed the sergeant pushed the door of the truck shut and Ferrick continued to yell for his mother.
The sergeant saw that a driver’s license belonging to a retired police officer was in Ferrick’s car and he moved to take the driver into custody.
The sergeant asked the man how old he was and the Ferrick answered that he was 17 years old.
Again, he told the sergeant that his mother would be right out, the video showed.
A moment later when the sergeant went to detain him, the man told him that he couldn’t hit him because he was 17 and began bellowing for his mother again.
‘I don’t care how old you are,” the sergeant replied.
The video showed the sergeant was able to get one handcuff on the suspect but that Ferrick began struggling and resisting.
“Give me your hand behind your back or I’m gonna pepper spray you,” the sergeant warned.
Ferrick gave the sergeant his other wrist, but he began wailing for his mother again at full volume.
“Mama! Mama! Mama, he’s hurting me!” he screamed as he was put into handcuffs.
“Shut your mouth,” the sergeant told him.
That’s when the 25 year old’s mother arrived on the scene and started asking the sergeant why he was manhandling her son, the video showed.
The sergeant politely told the woman, who could be heard but not seen in the video, that he would tell her what was going on as soon as Ferrick stopped screaming.
“I didn’t even do nuthin, mama,” Ferrick told his mother in a softer voice. “And he came up to my window. He grabbed me out my window, mama!”
“Now get your handcuffs off me, I’m 17,” he ordered the sergeant.
“It doesn’t work like that,” the sergeant said.
“It does work like that. I ain’t havin’ no juvenile record. I haven’t did anything,” Ferrick said.
The sergeant calmly explained why he had put handcuffs on him and Ferrick suddenly became enraged.
He lunged at the sergeant and the sergeant put his hand on his chest to stop him.
“Do it. Do it. Choke me, kill me, motherf--ker,” Ferrick said in a sinister voice.
“Kill me motherf--ker. Kill me, kill me,” he continued, trying to provoke the sergeant.
Ferrick’s mother started yelling at the sergeant not to choke her son, the video showed.
“Ma’am, I’m not choking anybody,” the sergeant replied.
And he let loose with a stream of pepper spray directly into Ferrick’s face, the video showed.
But Ferrick spit the pepper spray right back at the sergeant and nailed him in the face.
The sergeant went on the air and asked the dispatcher to “hold traffic,” and then the video showed he valiantly kept it together until his backup arrived while Ferrick screamed and wept.
Ferrick was arrested and charged with assault and battery upon a police officer, possession of a controlled drug without a prescription, and driving without a license, KTUL reported.
The arresting officer found marijuana in his pocket when he was searched.
Police said the driver’s license belonging to the retired officer had been lost at a casino, KTUL reported.
