Lufkin, TX – A parolee accused of kidnapping and raping a woman before he stuffed her into the trunk of a car has been apprehended by Lufkin police (video below).
The incident began at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 5, when 30-year-old Zataymon Skinner intercepted the unnamed woman as she was leaving work, the Lufkin Police Department (LPD) said in the video release.
“Get in [the car] or I’ll kill you,” Skinner said, according to the woman.
He drove her to a dead-end road, where he proceeded to rape her, police said.
Skinner then stuffed the woman into the trunk of her car and began driving away, but the woman managed to open the trunk using the emergency lever and fled to safety, FOX News reported.
“When Skinner noticed, he stopped the vehicle and chased after her for a short time but then got back in the vehicle and drove away,” police said, according to KTRE.
She immediately contacted the LPD, and told them that her attacker, who she identified as “Mon,” used to be her neighbor.
Later in the day, the LPD received a report that a male named “Mon” took off on foot after causing a disturbance on Holland Street, according to the video release.
Bodycam footage showed one of the LPD officers as he chased the fleeing suspect through the brush and over fences.
“It’s the end of the road, brother!” the pursuing officer hollered during the foot chase. “They’re waitin’ on ya!”
Skinner made his way into a wooded area as the officer closed in on him.
“Dude, I’m telling you right now, you better crawl my way!” the officer said as he deployed his Taser.
Police said that the barbs missed the suspect, FOX News reported.
Skinner jumped up and took off running again as the officer scaled another fence and forced his way through the thick brush, bodycam footage showed.
With sirens blaring in the distance, Skinner sat down on the ground and finally surrendered.
“Give it up, bro,” the officer said, pointing his Taser at the suspect yet again.
Skinner was arrested on charges of evading arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, aggravated sexual assault, and aggravated kidnapping, according to the LPD.
He also had outstanding warrants for theft and parole violation.
According to court records, Skinner had previously been arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, assault causing bodily injury, burglary, criminal mischief between $1,500 and $30,000, and aggravated robbery, KTRE reported.
Police said they have not yet located the woman’s stolen vehicle.
“We would like to take a moment to remind everyone - if you ever find yourself in a situation like this one, FIGHT,” the LPD said in the release. “Do everything in your power to prevent from being taken because your odds of survival decrease significantly at that point.”
“We are so thankful this woman escaped with her life and that we were able to get Skinner in custody before he victimized anyone else,” the agency said.
