Laredo, TX - Three Laredo police officers are in the hospital after a gunfight on Friday. An eyewitness took cell phone video of the gunfight (video below.)
According to News4SanAntonio, police were searching for Antonio Gerardo Rodriguez, the suspect in his girlfriend's homicide. His girlfriend, Reyna Gonzalez Zamora, was found dead on Friday morning, according to ClicktoHouston.
After finding Zamora's body, an alert was issued for Rodriguez, who was considered armed and dangerous.
The three officers located and confronted Rodriguez at a Stripes convenience store near Hillside and Mcpherson, and he opened fire. Officers returned fire, and Rodriguez was shot along with three officers..
Of the three officers shot in the gun battle, and at least one of the officers was listed in critical condition after being shot in the head. The condition of the other two officers hasn't been released at the time except that they are alive and believed to be in better condition than the officer who suffered a head wound.
Rodridguez was transported to the hospital after he was shot where he died from his bullet wounds.
In the video, you can see that it's no Hollywood shootout. Officers were forced to carefully place their shots while traffic was driving into their line of fire.
No further details are known at this time.
