VIDEO: Football Player Rants About Shooting Cops During Arrest

Jeremy Banks issued apologies for his behavior during his arrest.

Knoxville, TN – Tennessee Volunteers linebacker Jeremy Banks issued an apology for his nasty and obscene remarks to officers, captured on video when he was arrested by the University of Tennessee police in September (video below).

Police initially stopped Banks after he made an illegal U-turn in the early morning hours of Sept. 15, The Washington Post reported.

When the officer ran the football player’s driver’s license, he discovered that Banks had a warrant for failure to appear in court on Aug. 21 on a misdemeanor citation for driving on a suspended license in July.

Police took Banks into custody and put the handcuffed linebacker in the backseat of a police vehicle, where there was a camera on him the entire time, The Washington Post reported.

Video showed the exchange between Banks and police appeared very friendly.

An officer allowed Banks to call Volunteers Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt on speakerphone and after the linebacker explained to his coach that he’d been arrested, he gave the officer the phone to talk to the coach.

The video showed the officer explained the situation in detail to Banks’ coach, who reacted by blaming police.

“This is the silliest s--t I’ve ever seen in my life,” Pruitt told police in the video. “I’ve got it. I understand. I’ve worked at four places, and I ain’t ever had no crap like this except for here. Because the people usually say, ‘Hey, something’s not right here.’”

The coach told the officer that “some of these kids” don’t have anyone at home to teach them how to do the right thing, and tried to get the officer to let Banks go, the video showed.

The officer had no plans to release the football player.

“Anyhow, go ahead and do your civic duty man,” Pruitt told the officer and then the call ended.

Once the University of Tennessee police officer and the intern who was riding with him got into the car with Banks, the football player turned mean and nasty, the video showed.

“Where I’m from, we shoot at cops,” he told the officer and then delivered the veiled threat “Y’all don’t want to see me without that badge.”

Banks used several racial slurs while talking to the officers and said “I don’t like police, bro.”

“All my f--king life I hated cops,” he added.

Despite the heckling and taunting from the backseat, the officer and his intern maintained a calm and professional demeanor throughout the ride, the video showed.

“What would you do without that badge? That’s all I want to know,” Banks asked the officer in the video.

“Wouldn’t be here, dealing with you,” the officer replied.

“Y’all wouldn’t want to see me without that badge,” Banks told the officer.

The officer warned him to not threaten a police officer.

“That ain’t no threat at all,” Banks said. “I’m just gonna talk. That’s what I do. I’ve been dealing with police all my life.”

Then he turned his attention to the intern in the car.

“Ma’am I don’t think you want to be an intern,” Banks warned her. “Cause where I’m from, we shoot at cops. I’m from Memphis, Tennessee.”

Shortly after the video was released, the University of Tennessee Police Department found itself in the hot seat for what some perceived as favoritism shown toward Banks during his arrest.

The police department told the Knoxville News Sentinel that there was no special treatment for Banks.

"Our policy does allow people to make limited phone calls to third parties at the discretion of the officer, as long as it does not present a safety risk," University of Tennessee PD Spokeswoman Lola Alapo said in a statement. "These conversations are closely monitored by the officer."

Both Pruitt and Banks have changed their tunes and released apology statements to the media since the video of Banks’ profanity-filled police car ride was released, The Washington Post reported.

“I want to sincerely apologize to my family, the University of Tennessee and the law enforcement community,” Banks wrote. “I deeply regret my language and attitude in the video. I have great respect for our police men and women, and I am embarrassed by my actions that night. That’s not who I am. I promise to be a better representative for the University of Tennessee moving forward.”

The head coach also expressed contrition for his linebacker’s actions that night, according to The Washington Post.

“Jeremy’s behavior and comments are unacceptable and portrayed himself and our football program very poorly and he understands that,” Pruitt said. “We will address the matter internally. I’m determined to do what I can to help Jeremy grow up and become a better man. Our team and staff respect our law enforcement and we will continue to educate our players on how to carry themselves at all times.”

The badge is the one thing that keeps many people from showing cops what they really think about them.

I realize he is not NFL, but boycott the NFL.

Might want to boycott the University of Tennessee too. They will probably give this illiterate fool a business degree some day.

Expose the hatred and ignorance towards our countries law enforcement. Great job of staying professional and showing the world the true feelings the University of Tennessee’s football program has towards men and woman in uniform.

Threats toward an officer should result in his suspension from the football team for the rest of the season. Might even warrant an expulsion from the school, depending on how the school's code of conduct is written.

Maybe if he learns his lesson now that actions have consequences, he will carry this lesson into his time in the national felon league.

I highly doubt anyone believes or accepts these low-life's apologies. It's totally politics, and Banks just doesn't want to go back to the Hood. They for sure got threatened to be removed from the University if they didn't apologize. It's just words written on a piece of paper and read off by Banks and by the head "coach," Pruitt's assistance. They both are only trying to save their own butts. I doubt if Banks can even write. We all know what those sports scholarships are all about...

This future member of the National Felon League is a real asshole. He'll fit in couldcwith that entitled bunch. Got off easy with no charge for the suspended driving, then proceeds to be a jerk. So typical of hoodrat, so called athleted and all their entitlement. He needs to spend some time in a cell to do some thinking.

I could barely understand what this kid was saying, I didn't learn ebonics in school. I wonder who paid for the gold teeth.........That must have cost enough for a few classes that I'm assuming he's gotten a scholarship for playing FB. It's wonderful that most LEO's and now squads are using cameras. Then we can see how the suspects truly feel. The coach was trying to get him off, plain and simple using the poor kids background. We all know the difference between right and wrong and he's using his race/background to get the cops to let him go. Shame on him and he should be suspended/fired also.

Obviously the ONLY reason there were any apologies was because it came out in the (pathetic) media. This should have been broadcast on the National news and ESPN! If the white officer had trash talked to the young black man it would have made news nationally and he would have been fired. So happy for cameras. And the N word is appropriate for him to say!!?? There are plenty of kids who came from rough beginnings, including other races, that have become great citizens! Excuses! Being a college FB player is a privilege not a right. If he thinks he can outrun the police...idiot..he can't outrun Motorola (radios).

FACT: cops are 18x more likely to be shot by a black suspect than a black suspect be shot by a cop. If this was a white player spouting this nonsense he would be dropped from the team. It's really sad with all the black on black violence which makes up for half of the homicide rate in America from just 12% of the population that this kind of talk is not denounced by the black community or white democrats, instead they celebrate it and make music about it.

This ignorant person is in college,I doubt he could pass a 8th grade exit exam, should have been arrested for being under the influence and threatening a police officer. How does a poor black kid who had no parental direction afford to drive a new Mustang and on a suspended license?

lmao! What a dumbass! He has a suspended license and he calls someone WITH A SUSPENDED license to come get his car. What is it with some people? They literally have no f**king clue!!!

TopHook
TopHook

Just for clarification, and it’s no excuse for how Banks was acting, but the reason the coach was frustrated and reacted the way he did...saying what he did was because A) Banks’ license is not and was not suspended at the time of his arrest. B) The warrant was for FTA on a suspended charge but Pruitt had a trooper walk along with Banks through the process of how to take care of his suspended license and as a result his license was reinstated. So he was frustrated with the fact that he didn't understand how, if it was handled using a troopers guidance, there was a warrant.
Banks is a thug. Yes. But there are a lot of assumptions and judgements being thrown around without a lot of the facts.

Where was the apology from Pruitt for his comments? "“This is the silliest s--t I’ve ever seen in my life,” Pruitt told police in the video. “I’ve got it. I understand. I’ve worked at four places, and I ain’t ever had no crap like this except for here. Because the people usually say, ‘Hey, something’s not right here.’”

The coach told the officer that “some of these kids” don’t have anyone at home to teach them how to do the right thing, and tried to get the officer to let Banks go, the video showed."

How is Coach Pruitt going to "help Jeremy grow up and become a better man" if he is man enough to issue an apology for the words he said?

Jim Rome talked about this idiot yesterday and he didn’t fail to appear 1 time but 3 times!! He talks his shit but faced with being let go all of the sudden he’s remorseful such a POS! A leopard or in this case ah criminal never changes their stripes. The coach didn’t even apologize either he just condemned his player. They’re both losers and should both be fired but nope the player Banks will make it to the NFL and get a big contract all while kneeling for the anthem and spewing his anti police rhetoric. He will breed fans who support his ignorance and stupidity along with him . Real role model right there 🙄.
