Hollywood, FL – Police are looking for the driver of a car that intentionally ran down a Florida Highway Patrol trooper on Memorial Day weekend (video below).
The incident occurred while troopers were conducting a traffic stop on the southbound exit ramp to Hollywood Boulevard on May 25, WFOR reported.
Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Arsenio Caballero was out of his vehicle assisting another trooper when a white BMW 6 Series tried to run him over.
The terrifying moment was captured on a traffic surveillance camera and released to the media by the highway patrol in the hope it may lead to identification of the suspect, WFOR reported.
The video showed Trooper Caballero talking to the driver of a black SUV in the right-hand lane while another trooper talked to the driver of a white BMW that was stopped in the emergency lane.
Trooper Caballero let the black SUV go and was walking back to his vehicle, across the emergency lane, when the white BMW suddenly went after him.
The video showed the driver of the BMW suddenly floored the gas and slammed into the trooper who was less than 10 yards in front of him.
The trooper’s body was thrown onto the hood and windshield of the BMW, the video showed, and then it drove out of the camera’s view.
In the video, the other trooper looked stunned for a second, and then ran off in the direction the BMW had been headed.
Trooper Caballero, who has been a member of the state highway patrol for only a year, was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital as a “trauma alert,” FOX News reported.
He was later released and has been recovering at home since the incident.
Investigators located the abandoned BMW a few days later, but have not yet located its driver, according to WFOR.
