VIDEO: Florida Trooper Intentionally Run Down By Motorist

Authorities are looking for the driver of a white BMW that ran down a Florida Highway Patrol trooper.

Hollywood, FL – Police are looking for the driver of a car that intentionally ran down a Florida Highway Patrol trooper on Memorial Day weekend (video below).

The incident occurred while troopers were conducting a traffic stop on the southbound exit ramp to Hollywood Boulevard on May 25, WFOR reported.

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Arsenio Caballero was out of his vehicle assisting another trooper when a white BMW 6 Series tried to run him over.

The terrifying moment was captured on a traffic surveillance camera and released to the media by the highway patrol in the hope it may lead to identification of the suspect, WFOR reported.

The video showed Trooper Caballero talking to the driver of a black SUV in the right-hand lane while another trooper talked to the driver of a white BMW that was stopped in the emergency lane.

Trooper Caballero let the black SUV go and was walking back to his vehicle, across the emergency lane, when the white BMW suddenly went after him.

The video showed the driver of the BMW suddenly floored the gas and slammed into the trooper who was less than 10 yards in front of him.

The trooper’s body was thrown onto the hood and windshield of the BMW, the video showed, and then it drove out of the camera’s view.

In the video, the other trooper looked stunned for a second, and then ran off in the direction the BMW had been headed.

Trooper Caballero, who has been a member of the state highway patrol for only a year, was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital as a “trauma alert,” FOX News reported.

He was later released and has been recovering at home since the incident.

Investigators located the abandoned BMW a few days later, but have not yet located its driver, according to WFOR.

I am relieved that the trooper survived that terrifying incident. Here's hoping they find that driver, sooner or later - before anyone else gets hurt.

Ok, I will catch crap for this opinion … and no I wasn't there, and no I'm not a police officer, and no I don't hate the police, and no I'm not a troll, etc. But I seriously doubt that driver "went after" the trooper, as the article says. I mean, I guess it's possible he was talking to the first trooper, then saw the other one and just decided to murder him. But more likely he sped away from the first trooper for whatever reason and the other one ended up in his way. That doesn't change the fact he is a piece of crap, attempted police murdering, low life criminal. Especially since he just kept going after hitting him. His best and safest course of action at this point would be to turn himself in, with his lawyer, at police headquarters. In daylight, with lots of people around.

It is pretty easy to see how this occurred. The driver looked in front to see a clear lane. Then the driver stupidly looked away (back at the other officer, maybe?) and took off at high acceleration, just as the run-over officer walked into the driver's "lane." I think the driver and the run over officer are equally to blame -- it was stupid for him to just walk into that lane without stopping and looking as he came around the corner of the stopped vehicle.

@BlueLM101 my thought is .. how many drivers that have been pulled over .. then released to go .. throw a lead foot on the accelerator in a matter of 5-10 secs and within 5-10 feet ?? NONE .. that acceleration and hit was intentional in my book. Crazy people are dangerous and unpredictable .. thank God the officer had his guardian angel on his shoulder.
