VIDEO: Family Claims Footage Shows 2 Men With Guns Hunted Down, Killed Jogger

The family of Ahmaud Arbery said newly-released video showed Gregory and Travis McMichael hunted and killed the jogger.

Brunswick, GA – Police have released video on of the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old Georgia man in the Satilla Shores neighborhood (video below).

Ahmaud Arbery’s family and friends said he was out jogging on Feb. 23 when two men in a pickup truck hunted him down and killed him, WSB reported.

“My kid was murdered,” the victim’s father, Marcus Arbery, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “That’s all I can say. He ran like that every day – all his life. He ran in his neighborhood and that one too. That’s the only place he ever had a problem.”

The police report said the incident began when Arbery jogged past the home of Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis McMichael, the Associated Press reported.

The McMichaels told police afterwards that they thought Arbery was the suspect in several recent burglaries in the neighborhood, so they armed themselves and followed him, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

No information has been released about why the McMichaels suspected Arbery of burglaries.

The men jumped in their pickup truck and followed the 25 year old as he jogged through the neighborhood.

The video filmed by a witness in another vehicle showed Arbery jogging up the middle of the residential road.

A white pickup truck was stopped in the road ahead of him.

In the video, Arbery dodged to the right onto the grass to go around the stopped truck.

Yelling can be heard in the video for a second, and then a gunshot, just before Arbery reappeared in front of the truck.

The video showed Gregory McMichael standing up in the bed of the pickup with a gun in his hand.

Arbery appeared to engage Travis McMichael, who was holding a shotgun, in a struggle for the gun that drifted off camera for a split second.

While they were off-camera, Travis McMichael’s gun went off – a puff of smoke is visible on the left side of the screen that indicated where the gunshot came from.

The video showed Arbery and Travis McMichael veered back into the frame, still engaged in a struggle over the gun, and then there was a third gunshot.

Arbery took a couple steps away from Travis McMichael and collapsed face-first in the middle of the street, the video showed.

Gregory McMichael got down from the back of the pickup, gun in hand, and was walking toward where Arbery lay on the ground as the video ended.

The police report said he claimed he and his son had called out to the jogger and told him they wanted to talk to him, the Associated Press reported.

Gregory McMichael told police that Arbery “began to violently attack” his son and then the two men fought over the shotgun.

Arbery was shot twice and died.

The police report said that after he was shot, Gregory McMichael said he rolled Arbery onto his back to see if he had a weapon, according to the Associated Press.

The police report did not say whether Arbery was armed during the altercation that led to his death, but there's no evidence he used a weapon.

No arrests have been made yet because Tom Durden, the outside prosecutor who is handling the case, said he wanted to convene a grand jury, the Associated Press reported.

"I am of the opinion that the case should be presented to the grand jury of Glynn County for consideration of criminal charges against those involved in the death of Mr. Arbery," Durden said Tuesday in a written statement.

But that cannot happen for more than a month because the Georgia Supreme Court has prohibited grand juries from meeting until after June 12, The New York Times reported.

Durden, who was the third prosecutor assigned to the case, wouldn’t say what charges he planned to have a grand jury consider.

The first two prosecutors who were assigned had to recuse themselves because of professional connections to Gregory McMichael, The New York Times reported.

The older McMichael recently retired from a long career as an investigator for the Brunswick district attorney’s office.

Prior to joining the district attorney’s office, Gregory McMichael was an officer with the Glynn County Police Department for seven years, The New York Times reported.

One of the first prosecutors assigned to the case had said the police didn’t have probable cause to arrest the McMichaels.

Documents obtained by The New York Times revealed that George E. Barnhill, a prosecutor with the Waycross Judicial District who was previously assigned to the case, had argued that both McMichaels had acted legally under the Georgia citizen’s arrest and self-defense statutes.

It's not clear what evidence would have allowed a citizen to legally detain Arbery.

Barnhill eventually recused himself because his son had worked with Gregory McMichael in the past.

Community activists and attorneys for Arbery’s family are furious that neither of the McMichaels has been arrested yet.

"I think the video is very clear that they were on the truck with guns hunting him down," Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Marcus Arbery, told the Associated Press. "I don't know what more you need to make an arrest."

Crump's past clients include the Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin families.

S. Lee Merritt, another notorious attorney who is representing the family released a statement that said the video showed a murder being committed, The New York Times reported.

“This is murder,” the attorney said. “The series of events captured in this video confirm what all the evidence indicated prior to its release.”

Merritt is known for having represented a number of civil rights clients in cases against law enforcement.

Merritt had previously made false claims against another officer which was disproved by bodycam video in January. After that false claim, Merritt refused to apologize and simply told people that the claims were false.

He was also accused of practicing law without a Texas license.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced Tuesday night that Durden had asked the agency to assist with the investigation into Arbery’s death, WSB reported.

Looks like the "jogger" was the aggressor and tried to take the guy's gun.

Biden would disagree...

Ahmaud Arbery was jogging as he was known to do. Then armed white men in white pick up truck chase him down then attack him and when he fights back, one of the white devils shoots him dead in cold blood. Of course, the word of two white men are taken as gospel, despite no tangible evidence that Mr Arbery was the aggressor. Then their story continues to change. A modern lynching.

I think the video really raises more questions than answers. I wish the the guy with the camera had kept it steady and captured what happened as Arbery went around the right front side of the truck before capturing what happened on the left side of the truck.

Putting myself in Arbery's place, if two members of another race chased me down in a truck and approached me with guns...I gotta say I would be in a flight or fight mode also. I'm sure there's more to come out.

This is exactly why vigilante justice is illegal. Whether their story is true, or not, this would’ve been avoided if they just minded their own business, or called the police.

Two men pulling up in a pickup with guns in hand would scare the hell out of me and I would try to fight too if I thought their intention was to do me harm.

At the very least this is grounds for a manslaughter charge.

I firmly believe that for this video, that killing would have been brushed under a rug. I hate the good ol boy attitude of a lot of southerners and southern cops. It looked like murder to me. And before you say I’m black, I’m white and from Alabama. I just believe in equality in justice.

Despite the fact that Blacks own the larger percentage of crime, these fat assed crackers were hunting. That appears to be murder.

The white supremacist recording was chasing Arbery toward his white supremacist friends. He shared the video of the hunt in his circle, and that's how it leaked. This was a modern day lynching.

If anyone would like to write a strongly worded letter to the McMichaels, the father's publicly available address is:

230 Satilla Drive, Brunswick GA.

I hear, what appears to be the sound of a slide being racked, within the car that the video is being shot. Other than that, the use of force continuum? Well, the problem I would have, with what I saw, is that the man holding the pump action shotgun, after the first questionable discharge (could have been accidental), racked the action two more times. I have a real problem with that. If he had not chambered another round, these two guys probably wouldn't be facing homicide charges. Doesn't look good for the cowboys.

There is not enough of the video for me to draw a conclusion one way or another as to who was the aggressor. First thing I thought was if two people are chasing me with guns I'm going to run harder and try and find some sort of cover. Second thing is most reasonable, prudent individuals are not going to engage in a fist fight with two (2) men with guns, again I am going to try to get to safety

I guess I’m different on this. These guys drove down the road with firearms chasing down a guy with jogging cloths on and attempted to citizen arrest him? Did he rob, burglarize a home? What was his crime he committed? Those guys took the law into their hands and should be put in prison!

looks like self defense. when two armed thugs are pointing guns at you. you have every right to fight back! had one of the thugs not been a cop, they both would have been charged with murder without even a blink of an eye.

it looks like ex-cops can still get in on the game! killology at it's best!

Ya cannot really see what is going on because the dumbass recording it obviously does not know how to hold the camera still! It also looks like a set up because the idiot filming acts like they/he/she was waiting for this to happen. I watched it multiple times. To me it looks like the guy is jogging around the truck & the driver accosted him @the front of the truck w/his gun. To me that is illegal & the gun was obviously pulled on the jogger w/intent. If not why did he get out of the truck & go to the front of the truck to engage the jogger w/a a gun! The other 2 should be arrested for murder plain & simple!

I’m jogging down the street and I see two guys one holding a long gun I don’t jog past them I turn around and run like hell the other direction. I don’t run past the truck and immediately attack the guy holding the long gun. So let’s let the investigators investigate. Let’s not pull a Biden and come to conclusions with no evidence. Let’s ue some common sense and not fall into the black/ white blame game

The video doesn't tell you a fricken thing about what happened. Who is filming, what crime is the alledged citizens arrest being made for. At no time is there any warnings, orders or any other information being given by the alledged veteran criminal investigator pursuing the jogger. A simple check of burglary stats will confirm any alledged burglary activity in the neighborhood. If the citizen with the shotgun came at the jogger with the shotgun leveled at him saying nothing but pointing the weapon at him, that jogger is legally justified to try and defend himself. Without more information the alledged citizen crime fighters shouldn't be ordering awards yet.

"Prosecutor Barnhill defended the McMichaels' actions, as well as a third man who was part of the incident, writing they had "solid first hand probable cause" to chase after Arbery, a "burglary suspect," and stop him. Barnhill also said that after watching the video of the incident, "given the fact Arbery initiated the fight" and grabbed the shotgun, Travis McMichael "was allowed to use deadly force to protect himself" under Georgia law."

"In addition, Barnhill said that Arbery's "mental health records & prior convictions help explain his apparent aggressive nature and his possible thought pattern to attack an armed man."

"Court records show that Mr. Arbery was convicted of shoplifting and of violating probation in 2018. Five years earlier, according to The Brunswick News, he was indicted on charges that he took a handgun to a high school basketball game."

NBC News just moments ago, reported that Arbery violently attacked McMichael, according to the guy who took the video.

If you read the latest recusal letter from the prior D.A. sent to D.A. Durden who is going to bring this case before a grand jury you will see in the content that they were in possession of evidence which included the cell phone video of the incident itself. A 911 call from a person witnessing Mr. Arbery robbing a home and cell phone video of Mr. Arbery actually robbing the home. Mr. Arbery was about to be arrested for violating felony probation for robbery before this pandemic hit.

Did police release the video here, or did they only release it after it was leaked? I thought the video footage was initially leaked. #rolltape

Oh, and the police should have arrested the men at the scene of the crime. Waiting for the DA or a grand jury is BS in the circumstances of this case. #racism #georgia

HOLY CRAP!!! Straight up hunted him down like it was 1950's Im surprised they didn't hang him from a tree after murdering him. I hope they send those 2 white guys to an all black hard core prison. They will get what is coming to them.

IseeWhereThisIsGoing

This looks suuuuuper sketchy.... the two men stalked Mr. Arbery, while armed and murdered him. both deserved to be charged, and the DA needs to be investigated. even if he was casing the location, that doesn't mean you can go all vigilante and stalk the guy. call the real cops, let them do their jobs.

If a random person points a gun at me, I'm going to defend myself, in any way I can. Especially if I'm just out for a jog.

These two men deserve a fair trial..... let a jury decide their fate.
