VIDEO: Detective Busts Out Window With His Elbow, Drags Out Passenger

St. Ann police officers stopped a vehicle and pulled a non-compliant passenger out through the car window.

St. Ann, MO – The St. Ann police chief is defending the actions of his officers who were filmed pulling a suspect out of a car through the front passenger-door window on Tuesday (video below).

The incident occurred on May 7 after a vehicle that was being chased from St. Peters crossed into St. Ann, KMOV reported.

St. Peters police said that one of their officers had tried to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate 70 and the vehicle fled.

It turned out that there was a warrant associated with the license plate on the car, according to KMOV.

St. Peters broadcasted information about the suspect vehicle to neighboring agencies, KTVI reported.

A St. Ann police officer spotted the vehicle, and pursued and eventually stopped it.

Once the vehicle stopped, the officer ordered the three occupants to get out of the vehicle, according to KTVI.

The front-seat passenger refused to comply with police commands. He refused to raise his hands, or unlock the doors, or open the window.

So a detective on the scene used his forearm and elbow to break the passenger window, and then he pulled the suspect out through the hole and took him to the ground, KTVI reported.

A bystander captured the stop and eventual takedown on cell phone video, yelling his criticism at the officers the whole time.

The video showed a uniformed officer tried to open the front passenger door before a detective in a red shirt intervened and broke the window.

Even then, the passenger did not appear to comply with police commands in the video.

The detective reached into the car and, using two hands, grabbed the suspect and dragged him out of the car through the window and put him down on his back on the pavement, the video showed.

“Hey, that’s abuse,” yelled the man filming the video.

The officers told the suspect to roll onto his stomach and at that point, the video showed he complied with their commands.

“Hey, that’s abuse,” the armchair quarterback yelled again at the officers as he made his video.

The video showed the uniformed officer put handcuffs on the suspect as the man filming with the cell phone continued to yell criticism from the sidelines.

No one was injured and no vehicles were damaged during the incident, except the suspect vehicle when it spun out, according to KTVI.

The St. Ann’s Police Department responded to critics who agreed with the bystander’s assertion that the police had abused the suspect with a post on the St. Ann Neighborhood Watch Facebook page.

“Because it was a dangerous situation, with numerous officers involved and people driving by, our officers had to protect themselves and the public by ensuring that no weapons were going to be used,” the post explained. “The passenger’s refusal to cooperate caused a St. Ann detective to break the window. The detective then took him out through the window, handcuffed and taken into custody.”

“At no point was the passenger kicked, punched, or mistreated in any way,” the post continued. “At no point was there any abuse on the part of police regardless of what the person driving by, videotaping the incident and screaming that it was ‘abuse.’”

The post said that St. Ann police officers treat everyone, including criminals, with respect.

“The St. Ann Police are not judge or jury, however as Chief Jimenez never hesitates to state, we will not tolerate any reckless behavior, including crimes that come into St. Ann,” the post said.

Good Job Officer. Tired of seeing people every day that think they don't have to comply with the law. obama started this war on cops. Someone needs to drag his little sissy ass out like that.

It’s funny how people that film these incidents are bad asses when they back away from the officers.

Wow! That would hurt any person's hand...officers should maybe be armed with "window smashing" accessories to get "scum and dirt" removed from a vehicle.

It is very strange what some people see as "abuse" thesr days. People want the police to do their job, but they sure don't like seeing it being done. Often timed it's not pretty. That's just the nature of the job. People don't understand police procedure.

He's lucky he didn't break his elbow doing it. Next time just use a center punch or an expandable baton, less chance of injury to the officer.

Oh please. Stop with the "That's abuse" you Wimps! It's abuse to haul someone out of a car for a criminal act? All he had to do is cooperate.
