VIDEO: Deputy Fights Alone Against Two Suspects, then Hero Citizen Jumps in and Opens Can of Whoop-A

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is sending a big "thank you" to a hero citizen who rushed to a deputy's aid.

Volusia County, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is sending a big "thank you" to a hero citizen who rushed to a deputy's aid. The fight was captured on body camera video (see video below.)

The deputy made a traffic stop on a truck after he determined that the plate didn't belong on the vehicle. While the deputy was contacting the vehicle, the male passenger opened the door and gave signs that he might flee.

When the deputy returned to his patrol car to check the driver's license, the male passenger took off running. The deputy pursued the large male suspect, and attempted to deploy his Taser, which failed.

When the deputy caught up to the man, the deputy hit him with a baton. Apparently out of breath, the man stopped running, but wouldn't give in, asking the deputy why he got hit. The deputy continued to struggle with the man, who seemed too large to easily take down alone. The vehicle's driver caught up to them and then it became two against one.

Thankfully, even though the deputy didn't know it, he didn't have to fight alone.

A hero citizen rushed in to take down the male suspect. With his help, the deputy was able to place the suspects into custody.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Department released the following statement about the incident:

"Many thanks to the citizen who stopped to help when he saw this deputy dealing with a fleeing suspect. Always good to know our people have our deputies' backs!

This stemmed from a traffic stop in which a deputy determined the pickup's tag was assigned to a different vehicle. The passenger in this video was ultimately charged with resisting arrest with violence.

The female driver was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance (Tramadol) and possession of drug paraphernalia."

We'd like to add our thanks to this hero from helping out in a tough situation.
