VIDEO: Cop Sparta Kicks Machete-Wielding Man To End Standoff

Correy Watson allegedly struck an occupied vehicle with a machete during his rampage.

Charlotte, NC – A machete-wielding assailant who was terrorizing customers at a McDonald’s restaurant on Oct. 30 was taken into custody following a dramatic encounter with police (video below).

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers from the Hickory Grove Division received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the McDonald’s restaurant on Albemarle Road at approximately 9:30 a.m., WSOC reported.

The caller told police that the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Correy Watson, was armed with a gun and a machete.

Watson also allegedly struck an occupied vehicle with the blade.

Police located Watson out in the parking lot, but he refused to drop his weapon.

A brief video clip of the harrowing scene showed the armed suspect as he faced away from one of the officers and took a step backwards in the officer’s direction.

The officer, who was armed with a shotgun, charged towards Watson and delivered a swift kick to his upper back, knocking him to the ground, the video showed.

At least one officer deployed his Taser during the arrest, WSOC reported.

It was unclear whether or not a gun was recovered at the scene, but Watson was in possession of the machete at the time of his arrest.

According to Mecklenburg County Jail Central booking records, Watson has been charged with common law robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, injury to personal property, second-degree kidnapping, and resisting a public officer.

He remained in custody as of Wednesday morning.
