VIDEO: Bystander's Video Of NYPD Shooting Armed Man On Ground Sparks Outrage

The armed suspect allegedly pointed his gun at an NYPD officer's chest and told him to die during the brawl.

The Bronx, NY – A combative suspect was shot and wounded while brawling in the street with New York police, after he pulled out a gun and told one of the officers to die (video below).

The terrifying altercation occurred in the area of Summit Avenue and West 166th Street at approximately 6:50 p.m. on Sunday, New York Police Department (NYPD) Chief of Department Terence Monahan said during a press conference later that night.

Two NYPD officers were working an overtime shift in the area, when they spotted a man who had just broken out the rear window of a white BMW.

“The officers began to question the individual, who produced keys that were not for that vehicle,” Chief Monahan noted.

When the officers moved in to place the suspect under arrest, a struggle ensued.

Cell phone footage showed the officers as they tried to subdue the combative suspect while wrestling with him in the street.

“I know my rights!” the suspect declared repeatedly.

The officers ordered him to show his hands, but he continued to resist.

Chief Monahan said that both officers had their bodycams activated during the altercation.

“And it captures the suspect saying, and I quote: ‘I have a gun. [Expletive] die,’” the chief told reporters.

One of the officers fired two rounds, striking the combative man in the torso and hip.

He was immediately placed into handcuffs as bystanders began screaming at the officers, cell phone footage showed.

“Out of nowhere, while he was handcuffed, he was shot. He was shot in the arm,” witness Patrice Turner told WCBS. “He was telling them that it was his car. He was locked outside of his car.”

A loaded 9mm Ruger handgun was also recovered from the suspect, Chief Monahan said.

“We didn’t see no firearm,” witness Mercedes Escoto told WCBS.

Bodycam footage also revealed that one of the officers later told fellow officers that the suspect had placed the weapon to his chest during the brawl, according to Chief Monahan.

The wounded suspect was transported to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition, and was taken into surgery a short while later.

The officers involved in the altercation were also transported to a local hospital for observation.

“This incident, once again, demonstrates the dangers of police work, and how an incident can quickly escalate,” Chief Monahan said. “Fortunately, our officers were not shot or seriously injured tonight.”

He was not in handcuffs when shot!! Witnesses are the retarded ones!!! And I heard him say "die mother f**ker". So, so far, the officers account holds up!! If he was simply locked out of his car, why did he break the back window out? And why not simply comply with the cops? Your stupid ass brought all this on yourself!! Low IQ heathen!!

Dindus dindus, always dindus. Stats show that in cities like.NY and Chicago, if you remove black crime the murder rate drops 90 percent. But let's take flags off of sneakers instead.

Anyone who points a weapon at a cop deserves to be shot. Quit always saying “he didn’t do nothing.”

Rubberneckers, dime time analysis and it's always wrong. If this subject was pulling a weapon during a non-compliance altercation, then this is a good shoot. I want to see more footage on this, because I know it will back up the officers.

If he was the owner of the vehicle... why didn't he just show proof and that wouldn't have happened?? He just wanted to fight or what is he trying to hide in that car...? Let's get the rest of the story...

People are "outraged". Reading and listening to the comments prove beyond doubt that you can NEVER fix this level of STUPID. Start telling these cheerleading bystanders they are stupid and move on.
