VIDEO: Brawl Among 7-10 Girls Leaves Officer And 2 Teachers Injured
Georgetown, KY – Several Scott County High School students were arrested on Thursday, after a brawl that left two teachers and an officer with minor injuries (video below).
The incident was recorded by several people, WLEX reported.
Police said that fight, which consisted of between seven and 10 female students, broke out just outside the school cafeteria at 8:40 a.m.
“The Georgetown Police Department had two officers at the high school this morning and one of those officers was within 10 feet of this incident as it began to develop,” the department said in a Facebook post.
“The officer recognized what was taking place and attempted to intervene before the situation escalated,” the post explained. “Unfortunately, other individuals ignored the officers attempt and became involved in the incident and multiple physical alterations broke out.”
The officer and two teachers immediately jumped in and tried to break up the altercation, which police said was under control “within minutes,” according to WLEX.
The teachers and officer sustained minor injuries, police said.
“This was not a racial issue, it was not a gang issue, no weapons were involved and at this time, we are not aware of any serious injuries,” GPD wrote.
According to WLEX, school officials said they were aware of the growing friction between the girls prior to the incident, and that they attempted to keep them separate, although details about what action they may have taken were unclear.
“The GPD would like to applaud the efforts of the Scott County High School Administrators for the steps that were taken to attempt to prevent this kind of situation between the involved students,” the department said. “Through the course of our investigation, we have learned that School Administrators had already attempted mediation to resolve strained relations between these students.”
The teens will be charged with assault-related offenses, police said.
