Veteran Armed With AR-15 Stands Guard Outside Of Indiana High School

An army veteran says he wants to protect the school with an AR-15 and handgun until additional security is in place.

Fort Wayne, IN – An army veteran found a spot just off of school property and is standing guard over a high school with an AR-15 and pistol.

Mark Cowan said he was moved to do something in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting, according to WANE-TV.

Cowan told the TV station he is there to protect the students and staff.

WANE reported that Cowan has been in contact with the neighborhood police and the school’s security officer. Cowan said he’d stay until the school district puts in place additional security measures.

Fort Wayne Community Schools Spokeswoman Krista Stockman released a statement.

“We take the security of our schools very seriously,” the statement said. “We understand he has a right to be out there, but we do not believe it adds to the safety of our students. At North Side, as at all of our schools, we have security procedures in place. In addition, at North Side, we have armed police officers in the building every day.”

WANE identified Cowan as a member of Oath Keepers. In the video, he wore an Oath Keepers jacket.

The organization is a fringe-right group that actively works to recruit current and former military and first responders to prepare for the hostile takeover of local governments by the federal government or a foreign government.

What do you think of volunteers standing guard outside of schools in preparation for a school shooting? We'd like to hear from you. Please let us know in the comments.

Nothing wrong using retired cops and vets to cover the void cops dont have manpower to cover.
Nonsense cops can do it all is bs. Vets and retired cops are a good asset to have.

You seem to have ignored the part where they identified Oath Keepers as former law-enforcement and veterans. Not clowns like your chickenshit ass is. My guess is the closest thing to doing something dangerous is climbing up the stairs from your mommy's basement. Fucking cowardly keyboard warriors are the last people who should call men and women who put their lives on the line clowns. You are the clown, now go back to mommy and tell her how mean the internet was yo you.

First off, my parents are on the other side of the country. Second off, my house doesn't have a basement I live in california.

Third, did you ignore then part where the article said they are a fringe white... Excuse me, right, group that is preparing for a hostile government takeover?

Lastly, I'm a veteran as well, and I know clowns just like this. Theyre usually your garden variety grunt or Humvee driver... The kind that operate best when the are told when to wake up, when to take a shit, and when to go to sleep.

No, my comment has nothing to do with laying down arms. But if what the Oathkeepers are "training" for comes true, you will be just as successful with your rifle as you would be with a butter knife.

The NVA. You mean the fighting that took place decades ago, before unmanned vehicles cleared paths before infantry sets foot on land like we do today?

Yeah, you're right. Someone should have told the NVA.

If you noticr, I didn't say a thing about his actions. I think they're noble.

But the fact that he's doing it as an advertisement for the Oathkeepers is laughable.

Pay attention.

Advertisement or not, it IS a noble thing to do. It would appear that he is proud of his organization and his commitment. t appears that they are committed to America and that is all I would ask.

I am not a prude and swear of the occasion arises but I think that the name calling is demeaning and ugly to both sides.

The Veterans are the ones, I did it for 20 years and haven't forgotten my training and could damn well use it if needed.

"Security procedures", as cited by Krista Stockman, is that in every school shooting that I recall - the shooter came from that school and went through the same security procedures training. The shooter knows where, when and how the students will attempt to leave or where they will hide. Do you see a flaw in your planning? For the sake or our children, don't leave academics or politicians in charge of planning security.

While @Hi_estComnDenomn thinks the Oath Keepers are "a fringe white... Excuse me, right, group" and the Bundys are terrorists, he feels the Black panthers defence of their community with rifles is excusable. The main difference here is the Oath Keepers are defending ALL school kids. Don't get me wrong. I don't agree with them 100%. But anybody that would give a blanket statement about a certain group would be foolish in my opinion.

@WarthoggA10 I really don't think @Hi_estComnDenomn has much military knowledge except for what a person can Google. "Hi_estComnDenomn said: @WarthoggA10 Northrop-Grumman, Boeing, and SPAWAR. Wait, who do YOU think trains the military how to use and maintain advanced weapons?
