Veteran Armed With AR-15 Stands Guard Outside Of Indiana High School

An army veteran says he wants to protect the school with an AR-15 and handgun until additional security is in place.

Fort Wayne, IN – An army veteran found a spot just off of school property and is standing guard over a high school with an AR-15 and pistol.

Mark Cowan said he was moved to do something in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting, according to WANE-TV.

Cowan told the TV station he is there to protect the students and staff.

WANE reported that Cowan has been in contact with the neighborhood police and the school’s security officer. Cowan said he’d stay until the school district puts in place additional security measures.

Fort Wayne Community Schools Spokeswoman Krista Stockman released a statement.

“We take the security of our schools very seriously,” the statement said. “We understand he has a right to be out there, but we do not believe it adds to the safety of our students. At North Side, as at all of our schools, we have security procedures in place. In addition, at North Side, we have armed police officers in the building every day.”

WANE identified Cowan as a member of Oath Keepers. In the video, he wore an Oath Keepers jacket.

The organization is a fringe-right group that actively works to recruit current and former military and first responders to prepare for the hostile takeover of local governments by the federal government or a foreign government.

What do you think of volunteers standing guard outside of schools in preparation for a school shooting? We'd like to hear from you. Please let us know in the comments.

oathkeepers are clowns. Anyone who honestly thinks they have a chance in a fight against the military is daffy.

The military has weapons that will turn your whole militia into a bowl of oatmeal.

Oath keepers arent clowns.
Never underestimate your opponent calf. commie.
Atleast they care more about the kids than locsl government. Outside ny metropolitan area there are not enough cops to stand guard of every school.
Thats why they need to deputize ret cops and vets to provide overwatch of schools. My town only has 5 cops on duty at one time and there are 6 schools in town. And my school system is run with left wing anti cop anti gun liberals.
They think signage saying gun free zone will deter perps and terrorists with guns. Gun free zones mean sheep will be slaughtered because there are no sheepdogs. We need more sheepdogs to protect our kids. There are not enough cops for everyone. Thats why my liberal commies out there, is why people own shotguns and AR 15’s
For self defense of family and the home.

Well what we're seeing is the most people care more about kids than our own government does, so you're not saying much.

Second, what is Oathkeeper Bubba Ray's plan against a drone? Shoot at it with an AR-15?

A Law Enforcement Officer knows why this happened, a citizen needs to know to restrain the threat and put guns away if at all possible once the threat has been restrained. Citizens need to talk with their local Law Enforcement Agency about Active Sholter training.

Nothing wrong using retired cops and vets to cover the void cops dont have manpower to cover.
Nonsense cops can do it all is bs. Vets and retired cops are a good asset to have.

The armed police SRO on campus in Florida didn't work. He couldn't even tell where the shots were coming from. Three more showed up and did nothing. NO EXCUSES, they are trained to go in and stop the threat. They had a perfect number to do it. A squad of 4 and they all had the same training. When seconds count....police are only minutes away. Until people understand this...they are sitting ducks. Police training also consist of muzzle report location. How to determine the area of fire in a congested structure area. I suspect he knew the shooter was in the building and so did the other three. Not one of them moved to closer position. They stayed at a distance listening as children were murdered. Rules of engagement folks. They only followed what they were directed to do by a far less than par leadership.

You must be ignorant to the fact that the military is sworn to protect the constitution against enemies foreign and domestic. This is of course up to the interpretation of each given soldier. If the proverbial %!%# were to hit the fan, there would likely be a well-sized chunk of the military who would join forces with militia-like groups such as oath keepers.

Alright, so now the militia has more hand guns and rifles. Will the defectors also be stealing tanks and drones?

he has right he is not on school property.

There would likely be a mixture of one-off defactors, like low level soldiers, and larger groups of them led by commanders who would defend the constitution as originally written. So yes, I believe the tools would be there, more likely in the latter case than the former.

If you believe that, then I don't know how you don't hurt yourself in your sleep constantly. That's the dumbest thing I've heard this month.

Haha, well, I'm not surprised by your reaction. Reasoning sounds dumb to people who don't think for themselves, but rather echo ideas they've heard in the media. Not all the military, but I would say a good portion of it, are true patriots who would die before they see our freedoms die. I'm a patriot. You?

You're not even aware of the conversation you just hopped into. I was talking to others about military weapons, and how no matter how many pistols and rifles a militia has, they don't stand a chance against current military weaponry.

Also, I made it clear that if that day comes, I'm moving to Canada. There is no way in hell I'm standing shoulder to shoulder with good ol boys against the US military.

Call me what you want, just don't expect me to ever stand shoulder to shoulder with any extremist, left or right.

Obviously all of your military knowhow comes from movies. Us who has served, while serving, doing our daily menial tasks, we pass the time by talking, laughing, jeering, cursing, and asking each other what if scenarios. One of those, that EVERY GI has ever asked, is what to do when you have the "unlawful order" given. In my 13 years of active duty, not one person has ever said they would execute an unlawful order. So yes, there would be a very high percentage of military members, that would not fire on civilians in this worse case scenario of tyranny from the government. So it is not a given, that the US government would run roughshod over the US civilian population.

@ckmoore101 You're just as dumb as he is. Follow the thread from the top, dummy. No one said there won't be military members that would go against orders. My very first comment on this thread was that a bunch of people with pistols and rifles will not ever square up evenly against the military.

I'm not sure when you served, but I imagine it was way before the prevalence of image satellites, drones, etc. Advanced weaponry. I repeat: how would any number of individuals be able to stand toe to toe against the US military, with drones, satellites, and a dedicated cyber division? The only match for the US military is the Chinese military.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@ckmoore101 oh yeah, I'm a veteran too. and I'd bet money I served more recently than you did. If ever the unlawful order was given, those service members with common sense would try to get as far away from conflict centers as possible, because we operate the equipment that scares the shit out of us.

I was aware; I read the entire thread. Of course I agree that the entire military organized with solidarity against a militia population would crush it. However, I'm saying that this would not happen. In a case where TSHTF domestically because the government was trying to take freedoms provided by the constitution in large swaths, a good portion of the military would go against the tyranical government. You are free to flee to Canada, and I hope I'm never given the chance to stand shoulder to shoulder with you in such a situation. Hopefully such a situation never happens.

@SnowflakeMelter I agree. I hope this situation never happens. Don't worry though, @Hi_estComnDenomn would never stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone that supports the constitution.

Thank God for as brave man who has the b----s to do what needs to be done. He is not hurting anyone but is trying to keep kids safe. He knows how to handle a gun and is only doing this because no one else is doing the job well enough. Thumbs up to Mark Cowan. Thumbs down to those who are too cowardly to do the same.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@ckmoore sure it's not as cut and dry. what I'm saying is, you don't millions of people to operate advanced weaponry. it wouldn't take long at all for the military to pinpoint strongholds with satellites, and the all but cripple communications with cyber attacks.

If the military attacks the US, a ground war will be clean up. Most of the major damage will be done through computer screens.

@ckmoore101 and Afghanistan hasn't been smashed into the ground because we are out there protecting the poppy fields. Drug money is good as long as we're the ones making it.
