Vegan Sues Neighbors For BBQing Meat, Now Thousands Plan To BBQ Outside House

A vegan woman sued her neighbors for having backyard barbecues and says they cooked the meat to deliberately bother her

Perth, Australia – An Australian vegan filed a lawsuit against her neighbors and claimed they purposely barbecued meat in their back yard to irritate her and took her argument all the way to that country’s Supreme Court.

Cilla Carden said she has had it with the smell of meat cooking on her neighbor’s barbecue.

"They've put it there so I smell fish, all I can smell is fish. I can't enjoy my backyard, I can't go out there,” Carden told the Nine Network.

Carden is a massage therapist and is also mad about the cigarette smoke that she says comes over to her yard and is also upset with the sound of children playing basketball next door, according to the Nine Network.

"It's deliberate, that's what I told the courts, its deliberate,” Carden said, according to Nine Network.

A Supreme Court judge and the State Administrative Tribunal dismissed the case. Carden requested to appeal the dismissal and that was refused, according to Nine Network.

Carden said she’s not giving up and will be back in court soon.

But her lawsuit has caught the attention of many meat-eaters.

Now, thousands of people are planning to have a massive cookout outside her home, according to the New York Post. There’s a Facebook page called “Community BBQ for Cilla Carden” the newspaper reported.

“Don’t let Cilla destroy a good old Aussie tradition, join us for a community BBQ, and help Cilla Carden GET SOME PORK ON HER FORK,” the Facebook page states about the event.

The protest BBQ is scheduled for Oct. 19, according to the New York Post. The Facebook event page said it has 4,000 people listed as “going” and another 9,600 people listed as “interested.”

“THIS IS A PEACEFUL PROTEST, Nobody is permitted to enter Mrs Cardens property,” the Facebook event page stated. “There will be wardens on hand to make sure this does not happen. Instead the front yards of participating neighbours will be available for use, food trucks will be parked in participating neighbours driveways, throughout the street.”
