Two Maryland Troopers Shot

Two Maryland State troopers were shot when a domestic call turned into a barricade situation early Friday morning.

Little Orleans, MD – Two Maryland State troopers were shot early Friday morning while responding to domestic call that turned into a barricade situation.

Maryland State Police (MSP) arrived at the home at about 11 p.m. on Thursday night. A woman who had escaped the home told police her husband was still inside the house and armed.

The wife told troopers that she and her husband had been “engaged in an argument” when the man allegedly brandished a handgun and threatened her with it, saying, “This ends today,” the Baltimore Sun reported.

She told police that she and her husband struggled, and that the gun went off as they fell to the ground.

At that point, the wife told police she fled the home and ran to a neighbor’s house to call police.

State troopers surrounded the home and tried to call the husband multiple times, but he wouldn’t answer the phone.

The MSP Special Tactical Assault Team Element responded and “used the loudspeaker on their armored vehicle” to try to talk to the man, the Baltimore Sun reported.

The man “refused police requests to surrender and repeatedly said he was not coming out,” police said.

Eventually, the tactical team made entrance on the home, and police said there was an exchange of gunfire.

Two MSP troopers were hit by bullets in their lower extremities, police said. Both troopers were airlifted to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment, and were expected to recover.

The suspect was also shot, and transported to Washington County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the man also started a fire inside the home just before the police made their entry, WTTG reported.

I can imagine they would be. An irate individual and one or more innocent victims in close proximity. The worst scenario I would think. Much like a hostage situation.
