Three Restaurant Employees Arrested After Tampering With Deputies' Dinners

Three Okeechobee teenagers are under arrest after they were caught on video contaminating the deputies' dinners.

Okeechobee, FL – Three teenage restaurant employees are in custody after they spit into food they were preparing for two uniformed deputies at Highway 55 Restaurant on Saturday night.

The incident occurred when the two on-duty Okeechobee County sheriff’s deputies stopped for dinner on April 27, according to a press release from the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s department said that an anonymous person alerted the owners of the restaurant to the fact the food was tampered with after the incident occurred.

The restaurant’s owners immediately checked the surveillance footage from their kitchen and saw the three employees spitting in the meals intended for the deputies, according to the press release.

They fired the employees on the spot and contacted the Okeechobee City Police Department.

The restaurant’s owners were “quite upset” and have cooperated fully with the police investigation of the incident, according to the sheriff’s department press release.

Okeechobee City Police Detective Bettye Taylor and Bill Saum investigated the allegations and reviewed the video.

As a result of their investigation, 16-year-old Molly Spearow and 17-year-olds Alex Armstrong and Logan Pope were arrested and charged with the Florida Anti-Tampering Act - Food, a first-degree felony, and battery on a law enforcement officer, a third-degree felony, according to the sheriff’s department’s press release.

The three suspects, who are all high school students, were transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

"There is no excuse for actions such as this and will not be tolerated,” Okeechobee County Sheriff Noel E. Stephen said in a statement.

The deputies who were given the contaminated food were contacted and thus far, no medical treatment has been required, according to Michele Bell, the sheriff’s department’s public information officer.

Here's the thing...had I done something like this as a teen...I would have preferred jail time over the beating my father would have given me...and I would have deserved it....

Are juvenile records sealed in Florida? They are in some states. These little assholes may get off with this due to some bleeding heart judge, and the record could be sealed later anyway. I hope not! They should follow them the rest of their lives!

Spit on their food while in jail and tell them about it when they are released. Good one on them.

If I had even thought about do this my father would have beat my butt till I couldn't have sat down for a month.difference between the 50s and 60s and today.kids raising kids.parents want to be their children's big buddy and be the cool mom and dad.these parents need to be held financially accountable for these crimes and these three misfit criminals need to do about 6months in a juvenile correctional detention facility then be placed on probation until their 21st birthday but finding a local judge with the cohonies to hand down a guilty sentence and apply this type of punishment is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.these three future trouble makers and possable hard time offenders must be made to personally apologize to each one of these dedicated public servants emediately.JGB

LAKE OKEECHOBBE NEWS: "[one suspect] reportedly spit in the food. [another suspect] reportedly knew he spit in the food and allowed it to be served to the deputies, and [the third suspect] knew he spit in the food and served it to the deputies."

This is different than three people spitting in the food as this article says.

Even if the spitter is guilty, it doesn't necessarily mean the other two are.

They were probably laughing their asses off, right up until they got fired. And when the cops showed up? Shit got real. First degree felony, huh?
