A police officer and firefighter in Lubbock, Texas were killed Saturday morning.

Lubbock, TX - A Lubbock police officer and firefighter were killed after they were struck by a vehicle at a collision scene Saturday morning.

The incident started with Lubbock Police Department and Lubbock Fire Rescue responding to a single-car rollover on northbound I-27 and Drew street at 8:19 a.m., according to KCBD.

The roadway had ice and snow in the area at the time.

While emergency crews were on-scene, another vehicle pulling a trailer went off the road and over the median about 25-50 yards from the first collision scene.

As first responders were working both scenes, a third vehicle traveling southbound crossed the median and struck a police officer and two firefighters.

The police officer was killed in the collision.

Both firefighters were transported to the hospital in critical condition. One of the firefighters then succumbed to his injuries.

The fallen officer is a 27-year-old male who had been with the department for one year, according to KLBK.

My thoughts and prayers for all involved in this horrible accident and for the families of those lost. Please people, slow down when the weather isn't perfect. I can't imagine the horror the person who killed these men will go through for the rest of their lives. Ice, snow, rain, cell phones and just inattention cause so many deaths. Pay attention, you could end up killing someone unless you do.
