Yukon, OK – A high school science teacher was arrested Nov. 15 after police showed up for a date at her house.
Hunter Day, 22, a teacher at Yukon High School, had been conducting an affair with a 16-year-old male student.
Canadian County Sheriff's Office deputies said that the investigation began after they received a complaint by parents who were concerned that Day was having inappropriate contact with their son, according to WTHR.
The parents asked investigators to conduct a forensic review of their son’s phone, officials said.
Investigators used the 16-year-old boy’s phone to send the teacher a text message confirming their date. Day replied and confirmed their plans.
She also told the boy to hurry up before her husband got home, officials said.
Police went to Day’s home, and sent a text message from the victim’s phone that said, “I’m here.”
Day responded with a message that read, “the doors unlocked as usual.”
Investigators opened the door and found Day sitting on the living room floor, waiting for her high school boyfriend, with the lights turned off and candles lit, WTHR reported.
Day admitted to having sent “bra and panty” pictures to the student, and to having received photographs of the 16 year old’s genitals, police said.
She was charged with rape in the second degree, possession of child pornography, and soliciting sex from a minor using technology, Canadian County Sheriff’s Office officials said.
Day is being held on $85,000 bail.
Her husband is a football coach at the same school where she taught.
“This is a classic case of a serious breach of public trust. School teachers are entrusted to protect and educate our children, not to engage in an unlawful sexual relationship with them,” said Canadian County Sheriff Chris West.
At the time, she said she planned to get her certification requirement in by March so she could come back and teach at Yukon High School again the next year.
"I definitely see teaching as something I could do forever which is not something I would have said six months ago," she said. "It's totally been a confirmation for me, I love it so far."
