Talladega Teen Shoots Cop During Robbery, Loses Gunfight

An off-duty Lincoln police officer fatally shot a 19-year-old football player after the teen shot him during a robbery.

Talladega, AL – An off-duty Lincoln police officer was shot in the arm by a former high school football player on Tuesday as the officer tried to intervene in a robbery.

The officer returned fire and fatally shot 19-year-old Javaon Ousley, WAAY reported.

The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. on Aug. 13 on the basketball court adjacent to the Knoxville Homes public housing project, WVTM reported.

Lincoln Mayor Caroll Watson said that Ousley told family members that he was meeting up with someone from Facebook Marketplace to sell something, WAAY reported.

Watson said that the woman Ousley was supposed to meet brought a family member with her because she was worried about recent robberies in the area.

The family member was an officer with the Lincoln Police Department, WAAY reported.

The mayor said that the officer observed Ousley trying to rob the woman during the transaction and tried to intervene.

Watson said that Ousley shot the off-duty officer in the arm, and then was killed when the officer returned fire, according to WAAY.

Police have not yet released the name of the Lincoln police officer who shot Ousley.

The officer was transported to the hospital for treatment and later released.

The Lincoln Police Department has received numerous threats since it was announced that an off-duty officer killed Ousley, according to WTVM.

They posted a notice to their official Facebook page that debunked rumors of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“In response to multiple false rumors and unacceptable death threats directed towards our officers and their families, we would like the following to be known: No female officer was involved, no female informant was involved, no undercover officer was involved,” the police department posted.

“We hope that this will help inform the public to the facts that we are able to provide at this time,” the message continued. “We look forward to a full and transparent investigation into the facts of this critical incident. Any further questions or concerns should be directed to the Talladega County District Attorney’s Office.”

Ousley’s mother said that her son was about to be a sophomore year at Alabama A&M University, AL.com reported.

“He was outgoing, friendly. He wasn’t a bad child. He didn’t get in no trouble. He was ready to go to college and get him a degree,” his mother, Lakisha Ousley told AL.com.

The mother said she was called to the basketball court shortly after the incident occurred but still hasn’t been told what actually happened to leave her son dead.

“When I pulled up, they had him on the sheets,” she said. “I don’t know what happened to my son. I’m still trying to figure that out."

On Wednesday afternoon, protesters gathered and marched in the neighborhood where Ousley died, AL.com reported.

The Lincoln officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending completion of the investigation, as is protocol for all officer-involved shootings, WBMA reported.

The Talladega District Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting, WAAY reported.

CORRECTION: The original version of this story called Ousley an Alabama A&M University football player in accordance with local news reports quoting his mother. However, the university contacted Blue Lives Matter and said Ousley did not play football for the school.

Alabama A&M University President Andrew Hugine, Jr. released a statement that said Ousley would have been starting his first year at the university in the fall and offered condolences to his friends and family, according to NewsOne.

They are all good kids until they commit a robbery and shoot an off-duty cop. The victims are the people he tried to rob and kill. Once again, people are being killed for pulling guns on police officers. If you don't want to be shot by a police officer, don't threaten them with a deadly weapon. Pretty simple.

Rot you black fuck.

Another black kid throwing away a potentially millions of dollars football career. Happening too often.

It’s something how the suspect can have so much going for them and they throw it away acting like a thug. Then mama shows up and wonders why her son was shot and killed. Now they want to threaten the officer and the Department because the suspect is shot and killed by and off duty officer only after the suspect shoots the off-duty officer. It’s truly a sad deal throwing his life away acting like that.
