Chicago, IL - A 37-year veteran and retired Chicago Police Officer Francis Januszewski, age 70, was ran over several times by a hit-and-run suspect when he tried to help the couple involved in the crash.
According to Suzanne Le Mignot with CBS Chicago, the suspect, Manuel Repasi, age 22, hit another vehicle in the East side neighborhood, near the lake. Repasi left the scene, then came back and attacked the male occupant of the other vehicle. He punched him in the face and broke his orbital bone.
Repasi then went after the woman, who was the male's girlfriend. She ran from him down an alley, when Retired Officer Januszewski ran to help. Repasi then got back into his car, and ran over the retired Officer several times.
“He tried to help and he got hurt, very, very badly,” the woman told Le Mignot. “I feel awful for him.”
Retired Officer Januszewski was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His right leg and knee are broken, and part of one leg will have to be amputated. The woman said that Januszewski is her neighbor, and that he is also a Vietnam veteran.
Repasi is in jail on $800,000 bond. He has numerous charges stemming from this incident, including two counts of attempted murder. Hopefully this scum will never be released back into society ever again.
Once a cop, always a cop.
Retired Officer Januszewski spent 37 years serving his community as a police officer after he had served our country in war, and now he's losing a leg for continuing to be a hero, even in retirement.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, retired Chicago Police Officer Francis Januszewski. Get well soon.
