Daytona Beach, FL – A Florida man’s plan to escape from police was thwarted by his own pants on Tuesday afternoon, when they fell to his ankles, and sent him tumbling to the ground.
Smith refused to pull over, and instead led officers on a high-speed pursuit in his Ford pickup.
Police said Smith was traveling up to 60 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone when he slammed into another vehicle, and lost control of his pickup.
Smith subsequently crashed into a light pole and drove into a fence, before he slammed his pickup into the front of the Nu-Looks Barber Shop, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.
None of the customers inside the business were injured, but the building sustained an estimated $3,000 in damages.
With his truck firmly lodged in the front of the barber shop, Smith attempted to flee the scene on foot.
But when he jumped out of his vehicle and started to run away, his loose-fitting pants slipped down to his ankles, and tangled around his feet.
Smith tripped, and went tumbling onto the ground, where officers quickly took him into custody.
He was taken to jail on two counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, leaving the scene of a crash with injuring, driving an unregistered vehicle, resisting arrest without violence, driving with a suspended license, fleeing, and eluding.
