Greensboro, NC - Carlos Blackman, 25, died from gunshot wounds sustained in a gunfight with a Greensboro police officer on Friday.
Investigators said that on Friday at about 4:30 PM, police offices stopped a red car that Carlos Blackman was a passenger in. Blackman fled from the stop, and an officer pursued him. The officer caught up to Blackman and they engaged in an extremely violent physical altercation.
Carlos Blackman then produced a firearm. The officer and Blackman exchanged gunfire, each getting shot.
Both Blackman and the unidentified officer were transported to the hospital. Blackman died, and the officer is in stable condition. Law enforcement sources tell us that the officer was shot once in the arm.
There is body camera footage of the incident, which has not yet been released.
Thankfully, a hero survived and the suspect is the only other person who was harmed in the incident. Carlos Blackman suffered the consequences of a situation he created when he tried to murder a police officer.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured officer and his family.
