Chicago - Chicago police arrested a suspect in the brutal gang-rape of a 15-year old girl which was streamed on Facebook Live.
According to The Washington Post, a 14-year-old male was taken into custody on Saturday night and charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, manufacturing of child pornography, and dissemination of child pornography,
The juvenile's arrest comes about two weeks after the incident occurred. The victim's family and friends witnessed the brutal attack by several males on Facebook Live. At least 40 people are reported to have watched the gang rape and not one of them called police.
Police said that the gang-rape involved five or six male suspects and that more arrests are expected.
The victim's mother took screen shots of the video and waited outside a precinct where Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was holding a press conference. As he was leaving, she approached him and reported what had happened. He immediately assigned investigators to the case.
Her family had reported the girl missing on March 19. She was later found wandering the streets and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Since the incident was reported, the victim and her family have been receiving threats online. Neighborhood kids have also come to the family's home looking for the victim in order to taunt her about being raped.
Authorities were able to arrange relocation services for the family, and they have said that the victim is now in a “safe place.”
The victim's name has not been released. The suspect's name is not being released because he is a juvenile.
This is the second time in less than six months that Chicago Police have investigated a brutal attack on Facebook Live. In January, 2016, two black males and two black females were charged with hate crimes after the torture and assault of a mentally disabled white teenager, all white shouting obscenities about President Trump and white people.
Good work, Chicago Police Department. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim and her family.
