Robber Lures Victims With Scam Ad, Gets Shot When Victims Turn Out To Be Cops

Convicted felon Terrance Jones made a fake online ad, but had no idea that his intended victims were off-duty deputies.

Wildwood, FL – An armed felon was shot by two off-duty Hernando County deputies after he pulled a gun on them when they showed up to purchase jet skis from him.

The incident occurred at 6981 County Road 219 at approximately 2:36 p.m. on July 7, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said in a press release.

The two off-duty Hernando County deputies had made prior arrangements to meet a man at the residence after they spotted an online ad about the sale of jet skis.

But when they arrived, a man approached them armed with a semi-automatic handgun, and pointed the weapon at them.

The gunman, later identified as 19-year-old Terrance Terrell Jones, had no idea that the men he was attempting to rob at gunpoint were off-duty law enforcement officers.

When Jones ordered the would-be victims to get onto the ground, the deputies pulled out their own concealed firearms in self-defense.

They identified themselves as law enforcement officers, but Jones refused to drop his weapon, WFTS reported.

Jones started shooting, and suffered non-life threatening wounds to his leg when the deputies returned fire, the SCSO said in the press release.

A second suspect managed to flee the scene on foot.

Jones was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, robbery with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, WFTS reported.

He was previously convicted of felony offenses of robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and was on probation at the time of his most recent offenses.

According to police, the man who owns the jet skis also owns the home where the attack occurred, but he had no idea that his property had been used to place the fake ad.

SCSO noted such offenses have been occurring more frequently in the area as of late, and warned residents to “be cautious when attempting to complete person to person online purchase transactions.”

“Conduct the transaction in a public place and if necessary contact law enforcement to be present during the transaction,” the department added.

My local police department has 3 monitored locations for such exchanges.

Thank God the officers were not harmed. Why give this scum bag mercy with a leg shot, center mass, multiple rounds would have saved the families down the road who will surely be robbed/assaulted/murdered in the future after some liberal scum judge slaps the 19 year old career criminal on the hand yet again. Take the trash out permanently.

-Out on probation. -Previous felony convictions for the same thing, WITH a firearm -Another black person. -Another robbery attempt -Another firearm -Arrested for trying to rob off duty officers -Shot for his actions

That’s the story, without all the extra words and sentences. For you crybabies and BLM and whatever wannabe Kaepernicks, what is written above is NOT racist. It’s simply the facts. Facts that are all to familiar with everyone else. Same facts over and over again, story for story. Don’t like it? Well a certain type of people should stop doing stupid acts to stop making stories like this for news to publicize. This stuff just isn’t “made up” its not called being a “racist” it’s called the one doing this is being an idiot.

The P.O.Z. who let failed to cage this monkey on the FIRST offense should be jailed in Solitary confinement for ONE year. And the monkey should be the guest of honor at a "neck tie" party. WHY are tax payers REPEATEDLY RAPED financially to pay incarceration costs fkr toilet scum ?.

This POS was already convicted of robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which likely happened after he turned age 18. That means that he did virtually no jail time for those offenses if he's out on probation at age 19, right? No wonder we have so much crime on the streets.

Good story. Would have been better if the thug had assumed room temperature. Send those cops back to the range for some needed training.

It is a great story, but it seems a little too good. Since the kid was on probation (and a convicted felon), I'm guessing they ran his phone number and came prepared for trouble. I suspect that's why they didn't shoot to kill. I like to think our LEOs are taking proactive measures, like thi,s to keep the public safe, rather than the random law of Karma. In either case, those officers are heroes.
