Providence, RI - State Representative Ramon Perez has issued a statement on why pornographic screentabs were included with a handout that he submitted to members of the House Finance Committee, according to The New York Daily News.

Representative Perez brought the handout to a committee meeting on Wednesday night, June 7, when he testified on an automobile crash protection bill that he had sponsored. What he intended to hand out, minus the screentabs, was 'a screen grab of a Wikipedia entry for the Puerto Rico Automobile Accident Compensation Administration', according to The Providence Journal.

Several 'open tabs' were visible, with titles that referred to obscene material. One tab, which showed a time of 2:07 a.m., showed the word 'teen.' Representative Perez apologized in a Facebook post, but the post has since been removed. He said that "someone else had sent him the image," which was included in the post.

In the Facebook post, Perez said, “Tell me people what you see wrong in this picture ? I was send this picture with information I need it for one of my bill, I didn't notice what was wrong with it, until I got a few calls about it. My fault for no noticing the That picture I had receive, had something bad on it, and use it by mistake ,sorry to everyone,This is my stament . That is all."

Turtleboy posted a picture of the tweet:

He refused to name the person who had sent him the image, instead saying that 'it's his fault'. He said that the person was only trying to help him, and that 'he didnt' see the stuff at the top'.

Larry Berman, House spokesman, confirmed to The Providence Journal that Perez had given the handout to the clerk of the Finance Committee, who made copies as she would normally do. She then distributed the handouts to the Committee members. Once the words in the tabs were noticed, the clerk quickly gathered the handouts that she had given out.

A new version of the handout with the screentabs has since been printed by Perez, and distributed to Committee members.

One House Committee member, Representative Teresa Tanzi, said, "Everyone is watching him like a hawk. Everyone is watching every move he makes, according to WLNE-TV. She also said that the freshman Representative was "...already half way across the bridge to nowhere in my mind.”

Do you buy his excuse? We'd like to hear from you. Please let us know in the comments.
