Los Angeles, CA - DeAndre Cortez Way aka "Soulja Boy" is facing felony charges after being found in possession of multiple firearms while on probation. One gun found in his home has come back to a theft from a Huntington Beach Police Department vehicle.
Ricardo Santiago, the Public Information Officer with the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office released a statement on Monday detailing the arrest of "Soulja Boy." Law enforcement had arrested the rapper on December 15, 2016 at his home in the 3200 block of Los Palos Drive in northern Hollywood. He was on probation for a previous firearms charge and was under strict sanctions to not possess any weapons. While arresting the rapper, officers uncovered a Mini Draco AR-IS assault weapon and a .45 caliber Glock 21 handgun, according to the LA Times. According to law enforcement, the handgun found was reported stolen from a Huntington Beach Police Department vehicle. How "Soulja Boy" got possession of it has not yet been released.
DeAndre made his first appearance on Monday in Department 100 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch. The DA's office has charged him with one count each of possession of an assault weapon, possession of a firearm in violation of probation, unlawful firearm activity and misdemeanor receiving stolen property. If convicted he faces up to four years in prison. He posted $35,000 bond and was released.
He is scheduled to return to court on February 28th, just a week after the release of his newest album fittingly named Draco, which will debut on February 21. "Soulja Boy" first got popular in 2007 after the release of "Crank That (Soulja Boy)." He recently released the cover of his new album which may continue to bring him unwanted attention. The new black and white album cover shows him (while currently on probation) holding a Draco rifle, smiling candidly.
