Antifa Beats Bernie Sanders Supporter For Carrying American Flag

A Bernie Sanders supporter told The Oregonian he was beaten by antifa protesters because he was carrying a flag.

Portland, OR A Bernie Sanders supporter, who was protesting a right-wing event in Portland, said he was beaten by antifa for carrying an American flag (video below).

Paul Welch, 38, told The Oregonian that he was one of hundreds of protesters who showed up to protest the Patriot Prayer rally at Tom McCall Waterfront Park on Aug. 4.

Welch said he brought an American flag with him because he wanted to show that the flag didnt exclusively belong to conservative activists.

"The right and certainly a lot of smaller groups like Patriot Prayer might rush to things like the flag and try to take it up as, 'This is our symbol exclusively,'" he said. "Part of my thinking was to take it back."

Welch said he got a few funny looks but didnt have any problems when he first arrived at the demonstration. In fact, he said he saw other people on his side of the issues carrying flags, The Oregonian reported.

But at about 12:30 p.m. as the antifa crowd started marching along Southwest Salmon Street toward Naito Parkway, Welch was approached by two people who were wearing all black and had covered their faces.

He said they demanded he turn over the fascist symbol that was his flag and he refused, The Oregonian reported.

Thats when other protesters tried to take his flag away and the scuffle began.

Freeland journalist Mike Bivins captured the entire scene on video and shared it on his Twitter.

In the video, at least two black clad antifa were pulling on Welch, both from the front and the back, trying to take away his flag.

Then another man, who was wearing a black helmet and a black bandana over his face, repeatedly struck Welch on the rear end with some sort of weapon covered in a black cloth.

When Welch ignored the man, he stepped back, raised his hand in the air, and bashed Welch over the head with his weapon, the video showed.

Welch crumpled to the ground after the one blow, as his attacker quickly turned and walked away from the fray. Nobody attempted to stop him, the video showed.

"My bones turned to Jell-O and I just went down," Welch said.

He told The Oregonian he believed the wrapped weapon had a metal object on the end.

The video showed Welch curled up on the ground as another protester armed with a wrapped weapon approached him and poked him, and then walked away.

"I remember thinking there was a very good chance that I could be beaten to death," Welch said.

Eventually, volunteer "street medics" helped him as he lay in a pool of blood on the street.

One of them drove Welch to an urgent care center nearby where it took four staples to close the gash left on his head by his attackers weapon.

He told The Oregonian that he missed two days of work recovering from the concussion hed received at the hands of people who were supposed to be on the same side as him.

Portland Police Bureau was forced to respond with crowd control weapons after people in the antifa crowd started throwing objects at them.

Welch said he was really disappointed because hed gone to the rally to support a liberal, free Portland and ended up injured by antifa.

It strikes me as the worst sort of political theater, Welch told The Oregonian. Its kind of like youre playing into your opponents hand when you do that sort of thing. Thats not what I was there for.

They will replace any flags purchased from them for free in the event of any vandalism or theft.

You can see Welch get attacked by antifa in the video below:

No. 1-12

One day, antifa will show up masked and carrying knives and baseball bats and they will be met by Americans carrying the flag openly and concealed weapons legally...when attacked by Antifa, the DEFENSE of self against a masked mob will be swift....and supported by law. The people have had enough of this foolishness...where are the voices of elected officials, tenured college professors, business owners, celebrities and sports figures condemning Antifa? Hurry up and make your choice of where YOU stand...standing with Antifa makes you an enemy of the United States.

There is no doubt in my mind Antifa is an inherently fascist organization. It is complicated by the fact that its members are totally divorced from reality and most of them are attached to a blind hatred that doesn't want to go through the process of reason. Terrorists tend to be narcissists, and psychologists know this. They tend to think of themselves as above reproach, above others morally, above the law. This is highly problematic to a society at large when you have a segment of the population that thinks of itself in terms of being heroic when they are in fact inherently violent without cause based on preconceived notions. Antifa is filled with the delusion they are saving all of us from fascism. But they display time and again the trademarks of terrorists. 1) They want to destroy the fabric of any authority 2) They have a black and white viewpoint of morality and decide people are good and evil solely based on their politics and if they support their own group, Antifa 3) They turn a blind eye to violence of anyone that doesn't support Antifa or their goals, anyone who is outside their group is fair game 4) They describe people who don't want to get involved in their "fight" as "complicit" or "consenting to fascism". In other words, demonizing those who don't pick sides between left and right. The next step, of course, is a continuation of cultistic thinking. This is what concerns me because we have seen this psychology in action with terrorists and the same psychology is now being touted by Antifa members, who have no real stated goal other than to overturn the existing establishment and attack people.

I wish this happened in Florida instead of that parking space thing. 30 antifa guys attacking you? Sounds like a stand your ground situation to me!

ANTIFA has a right to protest, but they don't have the right to take property from another person, put their hands on another person or attack them with clubs and shields.

I, also, firmly believe that if you denounce the flag and what it stands for then you shouldn't be allowed the protections afforded by it via the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

I though these freaks were on the same team??
