Police Leaders Call Out Beto's Gun Confiscation Plan

National FOP officials have called out President candidate Beto O'Rourke's "ridiculous" and dangerous gun buyback plan.

Washington, DC – A National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) official called Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke’s gun buyback plan a “joke” and said it “reeks of desperation.”

FOP National Vice President Joe Gamaldi told FOX & Friends on Tuesday morning that O’Rourke’s idea was ridiculous and would put police officers in harm’s way unnecessarily.

"The only thing more idiotic than Beto O'Rourke suggesting that we should go door-to-door and seize citizens' - who are following the laws - property, is his current presidential run," Gamaldi said. "I think he's polling at two percent."

"It puts our officers in a very dangerous situation where we're showing up to someone's house, we're armed, these people are - obviously citizens - are armed,” he ranted. “And now you expect us to seize their guns? Give me a break!"

O’Rourke doubled-down on his plan to take legally-owned “weapons of war” away from U.S. citizens and said he would send police door-to-door to take the guns away in an interview with MSNBC the morning after the October presidential debate.

O’Rourke has focused much of his campaign’s time and attention on promising to ban all “assault-style” rifles, such as the popular AR-15s, because they have been used in several mass shootings in the United States.

However, the candidate had been wishy-washy as to how he would actually take the guns out of the hands of their owners who purchased the weapons legally.

At first, O’Rourke claimed that American gun owners would “do the right thing” and turn in their guns if the laws were changed during his administration, the Washington Examiner reported.

But his opponents and members of the media have repeatedly asked the Presidential candidate how he would confiscate the guns that people did not give up voluntarily.

On Wednesday, O’Rourke told MSNBC that under his administration, AR-15s would be taken away by force, if necessary.

“To be clear, I’m not talking about confiscating anybody’s guns,” he said. “But I do think that for those weapons of war – AR-15s, AK-47s – these were designed and sold to the militaries of the world to kill people on the battlefield and there are more than 16 million of them in America, and we’ve seen the devastating effect they can have in Dayton, Ohio or El Paso, Texas, or Odessa, not too far from where I live. Those must be bought back or each of them are potentially an instrument of terror in this country.”

O’Rourke continued to insist that law-abiding citizens would willingly turn in their guns.

And for those who don’t voluntarily give up their “assault rifles,” he told MSNBC there would be consequences.

"I think just as in any law that is not followed or flagrantly abused, there have to be consequences or else there is no respect for the law," O’Rourke said. "In that case, I think there would be a visit by law enforcement to recover that firearm and to make sure that it is purchased - bought back - so that it cannot potentially be used against somebody else."

He failed to address how he would convince police officers to carry out his plan.

Gamaldi told FOX & Friends that O’Rourke’s plan made no sense and blamed the Texas’ candidate’s failing campaign.

“I think this just reeks of desperation,” he said. “He’s falling behind in the polls. He’s doing anything that he can to get attention. So of course, just like he did during his Senate campaign - which he lost, by the way – is that he’s taking a shot at the hard working men and women of law enforcement like he did during that time.”

Gamaldi said the real conversation to be having was about district attorneys all over the country releasing thousands of repeat gun offenders to re-offend, over and over again.

“But if we want to have a real conversation about guns in this country, let’s have it,” he said. “Let’s talk about using the law we have right now and throw the book at these dirtbags who are victimizing the hardworking people of our community.”

Typical politician wannabe. Speaks out of both sides of his mouth...

“To be clear, I’m not talking about confiscating anybody’s guns,” he said.

Ah, but in the September 12th Democratic Debate, he said,

"Some on this stage have suggested a voluntary buy back... You've gone further... The critics call this confiscation..." [Beto replies...] "Hell yes, we're going to take your AR-15s..." [crowd goes wild]

Good job FOP VP Joe!!!! I'm right with you on this one for sure! Beto is a joke from one end to the other and needs to go back to Texas and crawl into a hole. Have him take about 10 others with him too, because they're all off base with about 75% of the voters! I've never seen such a group of jesters and clowns appear in National politics, it's so disheartening this is the best "they" have? What a joke, as VP Joe said!

I’d gladly turn in all my guns but they were lost in a boating accident.

O'Rourke's approach is deceptive in two ways. First, he obviously hasn't thought about this but the term "mandatory buyback" is oxymoronic. Buying and selling are the two parts of a free market. Free enterprise requires a willing buyer and a willing seller. Thus, without a willing seller, mandatory buying translates into theft. In this case it self identifies as government theft, a clear violation of the 4th Amendment -- in addition to the 2nd and 10th Amendments.

Secondly, he justifies this colossal gun grab with Article 1, Section 8, Paragraph 3, which says, “…Congress shall have power…To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states…” Sorry, confiscating legally owned products because they’re unpopular with a political party is not regulating commerce. Felonious at worst, razor thin at best. Not (ahem) buyin' it.

Another relevant fact is O’Rourke doesn't know the difference between an "assault weapon" and a semi-automatic sporting rifle, e.g., AR-15. Additionally, he cannot define "assault weapon" as a term or even describe how its function is different from any other semi-automatic sporting rifle.

He's never seen an assault weapon "in our streets" because they've been severely restricted since 1934. He's never even seen a semi-automatic sporting rifle "in our streets" because the infinitesimal few that are used in crimes are never revealed until the crime occurs. And peaceable, lawful owners keep them in their homes.

Seems he’s just another party liar reading his lines. He's completely oblivious to the fact that gun control is working precisely as planned. Democrat intimidation has dissuaded peaceable, lawful owners from carrying firearms. The result is adult on-site reprisal never changes -- NOBODY RETURNS FIRE!!

And democrat reaction never changes -- GRAB THE GUNS, GRAB THE GUNS!! We all should ask, WHAT GUNS?!! Nobody there had any. I'd also ask whom they hope to disarm. The victims invariably were rendered defenseless by their own elected misanthropic morons like O’Rourke.

He wants you to believe making the U.S. safer for criminals will make it safer for their victims. Ask yourself, do you believe being disarmed makes you safer? What kind of political leader would disarm his people while howling about the peril they face?

O'Rourke majored in English literature and fled from a DUI but was detained by a news reporter. He burglarized a college. He was a teen computer hacker. He also stole long distance service. Worked as a manny. Failed as a musician. Sweats a lot. Fidgets. Skateboards. Talks to strangers while using public urinals. Uses vile language in public but doesn't understand constitutional amendments. He’s a democrat and wants to be president anyway. At least he’s ambitious.

As a retired cop, I can only laugh at the stupid of Beto and his leftist gun-seizing clowns. He, like other anti-2nd Amendment politicians, continually overlook the small but important detail that American police ( at all governmental levels ) would never cooperate or enforce such lunacy. He forgot that cops take an oath to support and defend the Constitution. It eluded him to look at the reality of nearly ever cop's ideology where they are (1) Pro-2nd Amendment (2) Thousands are proud NRA members (3) The vast majority ( just like active and veterans of the military ) despise the pus of liberalism as they wallow through its social consequences daily and vote for conservative, liberty-loving people- not Trotskyites.

Government Buyback, really? The government never owned them to begin with. Nice try. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Hey Beta! The AR-15 is NOT a "weapon of war" - it has NEVER been sold to the military as a battlefield weapon. It is a CIVILIAN variant of the M-4. Sit down and shut up, MORON.
