Fort Myers, FL – A Florida man who outfitted his 2009 Bentley like a police car and tried to make a traffic stop was arrested for impersonating a police officer.
Deputies received complaints that 30-year-old Christopher Duluk had put lights and sirens on his personal vehicle and was using it to get around traffic and intimidate other motorists, according to a post on the Lee County Sheriff’s Office’s official Facebook page.
The 2009 Bentley had a yellow state of Florida license plate with LED police-style lights, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
“Duluk is not a state employee, and he is not authorized to operate any state vehicles or be in possession of a State of Florida license plate,” the sheriff’s department said.
He had also equipped his high-end luxury car with a “speed measurement device” which was similar to what real police use, according to the Associated Press.
Duluk also had police-style antennas mounted on the Bentley.
Deputies received complaints that Duluk was driving recklessly and tips about where he could be found.
The sheriff’s department said in their social media post that Duluk had even successfully made a traffic stop using his lights and sirens, but then he took off at a high rate of speed after the motorist actually pulled over.
Authorities investigated and were able to get a felony arrest warrant for Duluk.
The police impersonator was arrested at his residence in the 13000-block of Little Gem Circle on Dec. 10.
Duluk was charged with falsely impersonating a law enforcement officer, the Associated Press reported.
Detectives seized the Duluk’s 2009 Bentley, which sell for $50,000 to $85,000, under the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act.
That law says police can seize property that is used in the commission of a felony, according to the sheriff’s department.
Duluk was released from jail on Thursday, the Associated Press reported.
The Miami Herald reported that Duluk had a history of traffic violations, including two speeding infractions since 2015.
Court records indicated that he also received another speeding ticket on Thursday.
